Regular Decision Application Numbers?

Does anyone know when the total number of RD applicants to Pton will be announced? I know Harvard already released this info.

I don't think princeton has released them yet. You can check the dailyprincetonian.com and they'll probably have an article when it is released.

arggh, almost every school is releasing record numbers of applicants...

whats so special about this year thats increasing the applicant pool???

Overall, an increase in college applications could be due to abject fear of a military draft coupled with the hope of a student deferrment. Or maybe I am just having a flashback.

I heard that it was because the population is rising, colleges are trying to diversify classes and attract even more applicants and more specifically these are the years the children of baby boomers make it to college. I don't know if it's true, but it makes sense.

Yup. Just a flashback.

lol
overall it's been increasing for the past few years. Of course it fluctuates a little, and certain things like schools switching to EA (yale) will make a difference. But for the most part I think it does have to do with the echo of the baby boom, and the fact that the economy right now makes job finding extrememly competitive, so you have to go to a great school. Also, culturally, the trend is go to college and it's more encouraged/expected.

In the case of Harvard, the 10-0 football team didn't hurt!!

Also, Boston/Cambridge is a pretty incredible place for sports-minded students right now, what with the Red Sox winning the World Series and the Patriots winning the Super Bowl.

This is very true. Probably the main reason that I would have looked into Harvard. Boston is simply a great sports town.

Are you going to play football in college, or are the accumulated injuries too much?

The injuries have taken their toll. I was in contact with the head coach and planning on walking on, but now I seriously don't know.

I've also heard horror stories about Ivy League football. That and the fact that two-a-days suck is making my choice pretty hard.

Doesn't sound like a tough choice to me. Walkons have serious hurdles to overcome, anyway, as the coaches have a lot invested in the recruits.

Like this guy. http://herald-zeitung.com/story.lasso?wcd=11615

Spend your time enjoying the other attractions of college life.

Yeah I know. But I love the sport. Played it since I was eight.

Being overseas really sucked in the whole recruiting aspect though. If I had stayed in my 5-A high school in Texas, things may have been different.

/Oh well

i hope the number for princeton go down. but i know it wont be true. thx to common and online app :)

After the huge drop at Princeton last year, the RD app total should rebound smartly - in part, as you say, because of the move to accept the common app. (Another little piece of the Hargadon legacy chipped away!)

BYERLY! I JUST FIGURED OUT YOUR CC NAME! From...BYLERLY Hall!!! At Harvard.

Wow. I'm so slow. I knew they sounded the same....heh

lol.... so i guess byerly is a student at harvard then.

"After the huge drop at Princeton last year, the RD app total should rebound smartly - in part, as you say, because of the move to accept the common app. (Another little piece of the Hargadon legacy chipped away!)"

Didn't that drop follow a previous year's large gain? So isn't it more of a return to a stable level?

That is not yet clear. Check the 2006, 2007 and 2008 stats, and you'll see that its hard to say what constitutes a "stable level"

Considering that the previous year Princeton had a large increase, your comment about Princeton's drop last year seemed misleading. As I am sure you are aware, pops and drops are not uncommon in admission cycles.
