Will deferred students have an advantage over regular decision students? Also, will the Georgia residency advantage apply for people who are deferred? I got deferred and am hoping for some sort of assurance, thanks.
MIT’s admission data indicates that deferred EA apps have a 3% acceptance rate at RD while regular RD apps have a 4.5% acceptance rate at RD. Don’t know if there is a difference at GT. I have read that at Harvard deferred apps do not get a full re-review at RD.
I heard Georgia tech is pretty good with deferrals. Something like 25% acceptance rate. Don’t have a source but I thought I’ve heard it aomewhere
@xGunner GT’s website states that the acceptance rate for EA deferrals was an average of 24% for the last 5 years - decent odds!
Ok so I was pretty close. It definitely seems to be a bit easier than just applying RD
Assuming the acceptance rate of last years EA deferred was 24%, then that would be almost 10% higher than the acceptance rate for regular RD applicants.
Also remember that a portion of EA deferred applicants don’t show continued interest.
@racereer The 24% statistic was the average over the entire 5 year period, not per year, so it is very optimistic (and probably wrong) to assume last year’s stat was 24%. The overall admit rate in 2015 was 31% (compared to 41% only two years earlier!), so the higher rates in the earlier years are going to make things look better than they really are for the current cycle. I have a feeling that is why they use a 5 year cycle for comparison. You should probably assume you are in the same boat as the RD applicants, no better, no worse.
That’s what I read it is at most schools. The interesting question is whether GT deferrals get a full re-review at RD.
