Whoever did not get in: Do not be discouraged. Life will not be determined by where you go to school but rather by what you make out of wherever you are.

i was wondering if anyone had any problems getting into the website?

i had some troubles with the website initially. but with some patience i soon came across that “congratulations!” i was looking for! goodluck to all!

I recently got into Brown and I am writing on this board not to talk about stats and all but to give prospective applicants hope. If there is one thing I;ve learned from this college stuff, is that a). this is so political and if it works for you (like it did me) you love it but if it doesn’t you hate it and b). they wanna see a real person, not some fake applicant who throws down clubs and activities and classes like its a chore. Here are my stats and you’ll see:

Grades: low 90’s
rank: about in 100/300
ACT: 31
EC: President of a local community service club, yrbk editor, member of student gov, member of a principal advisory thing
Awards: various awards for community service and a future doctor award and AP with distinction
Reccs: were amazing and I had about 5 of them!
Essay: of the required two, I wrote one on meeting a homeless man and the other one as a metaphor of my life to the game survivor dealing w/ male anorexia. My second essay was pretty good to be honest.

I was deffered ED but then somehow got in RD. Now, the reality is that I got lucky. I beat out the valedictorian w/ a 2400 on her SAT’s and tons of EC’s for the spot somehow and, though I question it, I’m not saying anything. I just wanted to tell people to apply no matter what. I should not have gotten in w/ my stats but I did. To be honest, I think my recc’s and essay about my anorexia did it for me. So, here are my reccomendations to juniors or younger people:

RELAX. Do your best on the app and package yourself to be a caring and good person. Brown loves that.

Courses- take courses you like! They’re smart and know that the extra advanced physics (or whatever) is for college if you really love art

Get amazing reccs and know your guidance counselor! They do make tons of differences

Ask an employer or adult outside of school to individually mail a letter of recc on your behalf and don’t mention it! It looks awesome if someone took the effort to send a special letter

Do your best on national tests, but know that it isn’t really analyzed as much as they think

Do community service. It makes tons of differences

And write a juicy essay. Now what I went through sucked and don’t go through it to write a college essay- thats just sick. And if you did go through an illness (mental or physical), MAKE SURE THEY KNOW YOU RECOVERED. They don’t want a sick kid. But make your essays creative and inspiring and a bit quirky even if its about delivering pizza

And most of all, BE YOURSELF. It goes back to number 1. Brown is looking for people of different backgrounds. And, for people who watch Top Model, its kind of like that. They wanna know you in your app.

Also, PLEASE realize that you may be qualified but still not get in due to politics. For example, there may have been too many girl applicants this year so I was accepted over the girl from my school or they may want more minorities or more poverty people. That you can’t control and is based on luck. Good luck everyone!

Forgot it and wanted to take a screenshot for my grandma with the good news :)
