Regular Decision's at Pitzer

Anyone hearing from Pitzer? For those who applied, for how many is Pitzer a safety school?

D. is waiting to hear. She really liked the school...she's quite the liberal...and so is looking at schools like Oberlin (accepted) and Uof Vermont (honors college accepted). But I wouldn't call Pitzer a safety -- she applied early action and got deferred. I think it was a safety until that moment, lol. Vermont was really her safety. So now, if she gets into Pitzer, she'll have to decide whether to leave the snowy Northeast.

I have heard they have had record applications which made me wonder if it was because the school is actually growing more popular, or if it is reflecting the trend of students applying to more schools. My S. has applied to 9, two accepted, 2 wait listed.

"But I wouldn't call Pitzer a safety -- she applied early action and got deferred. I think it was a safety until that moment, lol. "

Wow. exact same thing happened to me. kind of scared me lol. made me rethink my matches/reaches. but i got into u of puget sound and willamette. so all is good.

I'm still waiting for Pitzer (also a safety). But there has to be a reason why they accept more RD than EA.

Wow. I just got REJECTED from PItzer. I applied EA and got deferred. I am quite shocked since it was my safety school, and I have gotten into 7 far more prestigious schools. And I visited twice, had an interview... don't know what happened. It's very weird.

It is hard to figure out sometimes. My S. has been accepted by a very selective LAC and wait-listed by two that he applied to as safeties. On what basis they make their decisions remains a mystery. Have not yet heard from Pitzer, but unlikely to go there now anyhow, but who knows?

Woot, woot.

:)

Not going to Pitzer, it's down to Reed or UChicago.

I was waitlisted at my first choice- Occidental and Pitzer was my safety and I was accepted today. Looks like I'm heading out there in the fall EXCEPT I was offered like $9,000 in aid versus the $44,000 tutition!

meeee too!

Apparently my family makes too much money, and I was accepted at Pitzer with a fin aid of around seven thousand LESS than you.

Much as I love the Claremonts and am fond of Pitzer, I'd rather spend that 40+k at USC than small liberal arts... It's going to be financially tough but I think I'll be a Trojan this fall.

Best wishes to you, maybe you can find a way to get more fin. aid. But really, you're not the worst off or anything. I was offered the absolute, BARE minimum- $2,650 will cover, like, a quarter of room and board at Pitzer. :(

(By the way, I was also waitlisted at Oxy.)

Son got his thin letter today, was waitlisted. Wonder how many people Pitzer waitlists? In his interview the admissions rep said they expected 4000 applications, would send out 1100 admissions, and figure on 220 for the freshman class. The reply card asks how long you are willing to be on the wait list...May 15, June 1, July 1. What do others think? Is anyone going to chase the elusive waitlist, with very small odds of getting in?

i was rejected. lol. deferred EA, now rejected. it was a safety school- i even got waitlisted at pomona. but at least i got into willamette and u of puget sound.

Daughter was accepted today, but only $5000 in aid. wow. $44,000 total costs PLUS getting to and from California from the East.

Stats: 1350; 700/660/650; GPA 4.0 w; 10/250 rank; good ec's; great recommendations; ok essay.

Don't know where she'll go -- good choices, though: Oberlin, U of Rochester, U of Vermont honors, American U with good money; Case with excellent money (though she doesn't want to go there); Skidmore with almost no money; and Occidental with $7000 grant (not much, but better than Pitzer!)

Rejected from CMC; waitlisted Tufts, Brandeis, Vassar.

Just curious, for those admitted and sharing your financial aid offers, what was your EFC and what you were you expecting/hoping for in your packages in terms of the grants/scholarships/workstudy portion vs loans? Pitzer meets 100% of financial need, were you finding this true with mostly "free" money or a bunch of loans with your grants? Just curious, as son was waitlisted and we were interested in how the 100% need met thing would really work out for folks.

i got into pitzer. But i definitely agree that it shouldnt be a safety. their acceptance rate is down to 30% this year.. thats DEFINITELY not safety status
