Regular math sequence/honors?

9th - alg 1 or hon alg 2
10th - geo or hon geo
11th - alg 2 or hon precalc/stat/ap stat
12th - precalc or ap calc ab/bc or stat/ap stat

What’s the question?
In order to take Algebra II as a freshman, you have to already know Algebra I.

what math course sequence you have at high school regular/advanced

(if its any different than mines)

If Enriched/Accelerated:
9 - MMT/Geometry
10 - Algebra 2/Trig
11 - Pre-Calculus
12 - Math 12, AP Calc AB or AP Calc BC

my school’s honors track:

(7th- Al 1)
(8th Geometry)
9th- Al2
10th- Precalc
11th- Calc BC
12th- Multivariable calc

Most accelerated (There are three pathways)
7th Algebra 1
8th Geometry
9th Algebra 2 Plus
10th Accelerated Pre-Calc / AP Calc AB
11th AP Calc BC
12th IB HL Math Year 2

We have four possible pathways (7th grade onwards).

Least Accelerated:
Pre-Algebra–Transition to Algebra–Algebra 1–Geometry–Algebra II/Trig–Precalculus

Nonhonors:
Pre-Algebra–Algebra 1–Geometry–Algebra II/Trig–Precalculus–Calculus

Honors:
H. Pre-Algebra–H. Algebra 1–H. Geometry–H. Algebra II/Trig–H. Precalculus–AP Calc AB OR AP Calc BC (depending on H. Precalculus grades/choice of student)

Accelerated Honors:
H. Algebra 1–H. Geometry–H. Algebra II/Trig–H. Precalculus–AP Calc BC (usually; although if they don’t get an A in H. Precalc, they take AB then BC)–Multivariable Calculus/Linear Algebra

Of course, you can choose any variation on these courses. I know people who were accelerated for the past three years, but they’re taking Nonhonors Precalc as sophomores (for the first month of school, all the people in my friend’s Precalc class thought she was a new junior because it was so uncommon).

There are four pathways for us, as well.

Worst:
9th: Foundations of Algebra I/Algebra I End
10th: Foundations of Geometry/Geometry End
11th: Foundations of Algebra II/Algebra II End
12th: Discrete Math

Nonhonors:
9th: Algebra I and Geometry
10th: Algebra II
11th: Discrete Math
12th: No math OR Financing

Honors:
9th: Algebra I and Honors Geometry
10th: Honors Algebra II
11th: Honors discrete math OR Precalculus
12th: AP Stats or No math(usually)

High honors/Very accelerated(my path xD)
8th: Algebra I
9th: Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II
10th: Precalculus(weighted) and Honors Statistics
11th: AP Calculus AB
12th: AP Calculus BC AND/OR AP Statistics

Basically, our tracks were almost predecided in 8th grade. xD

My school’s got five (technically six, but I’ll get into that at the end of this post) tracks, of which a student can occasionally switch up but more often drop down a track when needed.

Slowest/Remedial:
9th: Prealgebra
10th: Algebra 1B
11th: Geometry B
12th: Algebra 2B

General:
9th: Algebra 1B
10th: Geometry B
11th: Algebra 2B
12th: Transitions to College Math OR Algebra 3 and Trigonometry

College Prep:
9th: Algebra 1A
10th: Geometry A
11th: Algebra 2A
12th: Algebra 3 and Trigonometry OR Precalculus

Honors:
9th: Honors Algebra 1
10th: Honors Geometry
11th: Honors Algebra 2
12th: Honors Precalculus

Accelerated:
8th: Honors Algebra 1*
9th: Honors Geometry**
10th: Honors Algebra 2**
11th: Honors Precalculus
12th: Honors Calculus OR Honors Statistics OR AP Calculus BC***

optional, I think there’s a test-out option but I’m not sure
*Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra 2 can be taken in tandem freshman year if tested out Honors Algebra 1 or sophomore year if the student doesn’t test out of Honors Algebra 1 before freshman year.
***To take AP Calc, Honors Calc has to be taken the summer before senior year or junior year if doubling up on Geometry & Algebra 2 during freshman year.

Track 6 (old track for juniors in the honors program, as Honors Algebra 2 is actually a new course at my school. Also the track I’m currently on):
9th: Honors Algebra 1/Geometry
10th: Honors Geometry/Algebra 2/Trigonometry
11th: Honors Precalculus
12th: Honors Calculus OR Honors Statistics OR AP Calculus BC (the last of which is under the same restrictions as on the new Accelerated track)

With the introduction of a separate Algebra 2, a lot of juniors I know have switched into the last two years of the new Honors track.

And I’ll quit typing now that I’ve written an entire novella about how the math tracks at my school work.

CP – regular class or college predatory
Integrated – extremely slow math
H – honors
AP – Advanced Placement

Slowest of the Slowest of the Slowest
9: Integrated Algebra 1
10: Integrated Geometry
11: Integrated Algebra 2 part 1
12: Integrated Algebra 2 part 2

Slowest of the Slowest
9: CP Algebra 1
10: Integrated Geometry
11: Integrated Algebra 2 part 1
12: Integrated Algebra 2 part 2

Slowest
9: CP Algebra 1
10: CP Geometry
11: CP Algebra 2
12: CP Pre-calculus

Normal
9: H Algebra 1
10: H Geometry
11: H Algebra 2 or sometimes CP Algebra 2
12: H Pre-Calculus or sometimes CP Pre-Calculus

Somewhat Accelerated – these people were screwed by the system and tried to save themselves
9: H Algebra 1
10: H Geometry AND H Algebra 2
11: H Pre-Calculus
12: AP Calculus AB/BC or H Calculus or AP/H Stats

Accelerated
9: H Algebra 2
10: H Geometry
11: H Pre-Calculus or sometimes CP Pre-Calculus
12: AP Calculus AB/BC or H Calculus or AP/H Stats

Toughest – Only a few people do this (four other students and myself do this)
9: H Algebra 2 AND H Geometry
10: H Pre-Calculus
11: AP Calculus BC
12: College Mathematics or AP Stats

Every possible math sequence I’ve heard off (I’m homeschooled so this is what I’ve heard from other kids), from most to least accelerated (I did the first column and I’m not sure if it’s actually offered in public school, but…):

…Track 1…Track 2…Track 3…Track 4…Track 5…Track 6…Track 7…Track 8
07: Algebra 1.| Algebra 1.|.Algebra 1…|.Algebra 1…|.Algebra 1…|.Pre-Alg…|…|
08: Algebra 2.| Alg2+geo.|.Geometry…|.Geometry.|.Geometry…|.Algebra 1…| Pre-Alg…|
09: BC Calc…| Precalc…|.Algebra 2…|.Algebra 2.|.Algebra 2…|.Geometry.| Algebra 1.|.Pre-Alg
10: DE/MVC…| BC Calc…|.BC Calc…|.Precalc…|.Precalc…|.Algebra 2.| Geometry…|.Algebra 1

12: Higher…| Higher…|.Higher…|.Higher…|.DE/MVC…|.BC Calc…| Precalc…|.Algebra 2

Sorry for all the abbreviations. DE = Differential Equations, MVC = Multivariable Calculus, geo = geometry for that one box.
Also sorry for all the dots. I put in spaces but they were taken away in the preview/post.

Track 2 is for the students that took math with a specific teacher that combined two yeatook rs.
Track 3 is one student I know who precalc over the summer. Track 4 is a student who did BC calc over the summer.
BC Calc is AP Calc BC although some do regular or AB…I just don’t have room to type it.

I don’t think I know anyone who did 7 or 8 since Algebra 1 in 8th grade is the normal path at the middle school near where we live.

I also know someone who did BC Calc in 8th grade and then jumped to linear algebra in 9th, but I don’t know how exactly he did it.

Stats is an elective in all cases, I think.

We test at the end of 5th grade for placement. If you get higher than a 95% on a 6th grade level math test, you get to skip 6th grade math and go to Pre-Algebra.
