Hi guys, I'm an upcoming Fall 2012 transfer student and as everyone here knows, the Summer Orientation is not mandatory but highly recommended. However, I was just thinking about not attending and just going on a separate regular tour. Would a regular tour be exactly like the summer orientation or do they differ? I just want a overall look of the whole campus and see where everything is located, how the dorms look like, how the transportation works, take a look at all the facilities, dining halls, etc. so I know where everything is and how to get around this immense campus comfortably without getting confused or lost when I start in September. Do you guys think it would be fine for me to just attend the regular tour or should I attend the orientation? Advice would be great. Thank you very much!

during regular tours in the summer, usually it was a bus tour and students visited some dorms from what i saw.

To be honest, the rutgers campuses are not hard at all to know. Busch and livingston are mode secluded to only college students(undergrad and grad) where cook/douglas and college ave are around the city.

I think a tour would be fine, just after the tour go roaming around campus using the maps and find places. There are summer classes going so you can ask students questions.

Rutgers does recommend orientation cause you get to sleep over and see how it feels. Also you get to meet people. I know a couple transfers and they didn’t attend orientation.

If you are having trouble with some things regarding the campuses just google. THere is so much info online.
For example,
A & H bus make trips from busch and college ave in opposite directions
B bus is for livi
Lx is for college ave to livi round trips
and etc

Depending on times, bus can be packed or not packed at all.
