Rejected at competitive schools- Why bother checking harvard decision

I just got letters from Amherst and Wesleyan. Not wait-listed- rejected. I knew I was a mediocre applicant, but I applied to Harvard too... now I'll just feel silly checking on Tuesday for the decision. Anyone else feel this way?

Nothing is impossible. But getting into Harvard is definitely a crapshoot.

Did you apply to any other schools?

Just because you were not accepted by Amherst and Wesleyan, if you application was truly appropriate and competitive, there is no reason to assume that you have not chance. H, A, and W may all be looking for different things and H could be your match. Good luck!

^^^i know what you mean! Still, you can rest assured that weird things will happen this year in college acceptances.

For the vast majority of us who are not slam dunks anywhere, it really is a game of chance as much as anything else.

well i got into BU and williams so far. and harvard definitely seemed “interested” when they called for a special interview [i was the only one from my country to get an invitation for an interview for a good 4 years]. im crossing my fingers for tuesday, maybe i’ll be able to put my williams decision letter into the paper shredder…

It’s not like if there are 100 people, Harvard accepts the top 5, Amherst the top 10, and Wesleyan the top 15. They’ll accept some of the same people, reject some of the same people, and accept and reject different people.

Assuming you’re in the ballpark with grades and scores, there’s no reason to draw any conclusions from the two rejections. Each acceptance or rejection happens independently of the others.

i just wish that acceptances would come out from most competitive to least, that way after a certain point youd just have a couple of acceptances. I was accepted to all of my schools and then im getting four rejections in a row.

i got rejections from nyu, tufts, bc, upenn, columbia…and i got into harvard…so don’t get your hopes up

Stranger things have happened. u might get in. probably not but its not that far fetched

who knows? one guy got rejected from umaine and got into harvard (according to a poster on this forum)

honestly, are you really not going to check the decision because you think you wont get in? c’mon…

I know a kid who got rejected from Amherst and got in to Harvard last year.
