^^
I get how this must sound to people not in the same situation. But see, you’re proving my point…

I’m a HYP reject, so now I have to go to Cornell. It doesn’t feel like a privilege or an honor, it feels like I didn’t get into anywhere else, so now I have to go here. It’s not a “Cornell is better than HYP anyway,” it’s a “Ouch. Tough luck. Cornell isn’t so bad, but it’s no HYP.”

Just one more thing: they’re so right to reject you. The admissions board is probably online right now just to see your post and laugh at your misery. Honestly can’t blame them; there’s really no way for anyone to feel bad for you. Your dejection made my day.

You have some real issues buddy. Seek a psychologist, not a forum. I’m done here.

According to US News, from an engineering rankings standpoint (and yes, I know about the unreliability of rankings, etc.), Cornell is the best Ivy:

University of California–Berkeley 9. Cornell University

Princeton University

University of California–Los Angeles

Columbia University

Harvard University

University of Pennsylvania

Brown University

Yale University

Dartmouth College

don’t spend your life worrying about pleasing and impressing others (which is exactly what you’re doing here). step back for a second: it’s honestly a sign of weakness and childishness that you can’t find the school that suits you best, but instead fret over what looks the best to other people.

and don’t go to Cornell. you’re be taking the spot of someone who would actually thrive there, someone who may gladly give up their spot at HYP for Cornell. don’t see that happening? you don’t see the importance of making your own decision that is important for life.

No, you do not “have to go to Cornell.” You have been reminded repeatedly that you DO have other choices – you have listed them: Berkeley and UCLA. They are excellent schools. Please go to one of them. Give the Cornellians who love their venerable school a break.

^^
But I’m not trying to become an engineer.

And please show me ONE person from this year’s pool who was accepted at HYP but not Cornell. I realized this a few hours ago: I am a loser, and therefore I am going to Cornell. Different story if I had Duke and Cornell and then picked Cornell-- then I would be voluntarily going to Cornell. But I don’t.

I think it’s possible your attitude showed in your essays or somewhere else on your applications. For some reason, Cornell and Cal overlooked the attitude. I have no idea what else to say. This is shocking.

And btw, it was Woody Allen, not Groucho Marx.

^^^
Again… I view Berkeley in the same light as Cornell. It’s filled to the brim with Ivy rejects. It’s the top of the bottom (public schools) vs the bottom of the top (Ivy League.)

I was just trying to help make you feel a litter better and realize that there is a bright side to this. Besides, if you think you’re a loser, what does that make the 84% of Cornell rejects? You got in; that’s an achievement in itself.

^^
Yeah, I’m not kidding, that actually makes me feel somewhat better… In all honesty, had I gotten only Duke, you might see a similar rant in that forum. Maybe not as bad, but yeah. I just wish there were people who didn’t get into Cornell that got into Princeton.

^
No, you definitely made me feel better, since you’re in the same boat.

@placido:
probably doesn’t. He needs one from HYP. So when you show him H, he’ll ask you for Y. When you show him Y, he’ll ask you for P. Then all 3 together. Then he still wouldn’t give up because he’s here to whine and he’s just posting things just because he can. That’s what pathetic humans do.

In my opinion your misguided attitude and patent ignorance are a “lose lose” situation, not the fantastic schools that you so foolishly disrespect. In my opinion neither of them deserve you.

^
You are correct. Cornell and Cal should have people who are thrilled to be there. I would be content with rejection letters to both if only I had a HYP.

Unfortunately, that’s not an option. So my only real choice is to try to fall in love with Cornell, but that is, as you can see… proving rather difficult given the circumstances.

And I really am grateful to the adcoms for at least giving me this. If I do wind up picking Cornell, I’d definitely leave a positive impact. But it’s just unbelievably tough right now. Again, apologies to any Cornellians I’ve offended. I’m just mad and disappointed right now.

Question: Is the College of Arts and Sciences the least selective?

By the way, talking about selectivity in Cornell or ANY SCHOOL for that matter for a prolonged period of time won’t make you many friends. You are honestly the most shallow person I’ve seen.

^
You know what… I thought about what you said. You’re right. Cornell is a fantastic school and I should be proud to have gotten in, not embarrassed that it was my only one. Again, sorry for the pompousness. This was just totally unexpected.

Few questions:

1) What is there to do in Ithaca?

2) How strong is the undergraduate focus?

3) How strong is the alumni network?

4) How strong is I-Banking placement?

5) For you personally, which schools would you take over Cornell if you got a do-over?

6) Cornell vs UC Berkely-- Not considering money, where do you pick?
