So I just received my rejection letter but I thought I would be someway qualified… im ranked #9 out of 450 in my class and I have a 3.98 GPA unweighted. I got a 30 on my ACT and 1400 on my SAT and I’ve taken 9 AP/college courses and I’ve taken 4 more classes than the average student. I skipped a couple math classes and was able to complete high school courses in middle school and I took additional running start calculus classes on top of my full high school schedule. Freshman to sophomore year I played both club and premier level soccer and was appointed team captain and I’m president of 3 big clubs at my school, an active member in 3 more, I created my own website design business and donate 100% of proceeds to homeless students in my school district, I’m a national qualifier in FBLA (business/technology competition club) and I’m a Spanish woman pursuing computer science. I also regularly organize food drives and field trips to soup kitchens for students at my school to volunteer. I honestly thought my stats were unique (at least they are compared to my school) and I thought i’d have a solid chance at both schools. Are my chances ruined for berkeley too? That’s my dream school ): I got into UCSD and Cal Poly SLO but I just want to know if I still have a shot at UCB.
- i also am an employee at Nordstrom and tutor Spanish students every week
I think it’s your test scores that brought down your chance. I don’t think UCB will admit either. Did you even visit these schools?
The State of California’s public universities cannot use affirmative action to admit students, so it doesn’t matter what your ethnicity is because they can’t use it.
Are you a resident of California?
Your standardized scores are low for those schools. A big factor is whether you are a California residents as aunt bea mentioned. What are your SAT 2 scores? What major are you applying to?
Admissions at UCLA is more stats driven than Cal, which is more holistic (they supposedly look at the whole package). You’ve taken a lot of rigor, but your test scores are maybe not quite in line. On the other hand, you’ve been super busy with work and EC’s and leadership stuff, which may interest Cal. You will know one way or the other very soon - good luck!
You definitely can. Keep the faith and hope for the best. No do-overs at this point. Good Luck. Fingers crossed.
@jcord8 I have a feeling you will get in at UCB especially if you applied as a non-STEM major because they review more holistically. Let us know either way.
