Rejected from UCLA

Hello
I got rejected by UCLA a year ago and I was wondering what to do next? I want to transfer there badly because I really can’t see myself going to another area like riverside. I’m so poor and working in LA, going to school in LA is the best thing for me financially. I want to transfer and apply again for fall 2016
How do i reapply when I got rejected? Do I send a letter? I’m sorry for being so ignorant.

Do you have an idea of why you were rejected? (Low GPA, prerequisite issues)?

@songpandalei: I would reapply after attending a community college for at least a year and getting a 3.6 GPA or higher. I even think UCLA automatically accepts transfer students from Santa Monica College that get a 3.5 GPA or higher. Good luck!

What is your major/gpa?

If you did not get into UCLA as a Freshman, I would follow @Margie54’s plan to attend a CCC, get good grades and transfer to UCLA. As stated, SMC has a very good transfer rate for UCLA.

Don’t you need to go to community college for 2 years to transfer to a UC? I am not from CA, but thought I have seen this on other threads.

You need 60 semester/90 quarter units to transfer to a UC which puts an applicant at Junior level. AP credits can be used towards the minimum units, so in some rare cases, a CCC student could transfer in 1 year if they take a large unit load.

I am at SMC and UCLA does not automatically accept transfer students although they do accept the most transfer students from there. You can reapply or submit an appeal, but it would be wise to find out why you were rejected so you know what to work on before doing either. I would also disregard the 3.6 minimum gpa because in reality you really need a 3.8-4.0 to even be competitive. Sad but true. You’re also going to want to have all major requirements and IGETC classes completed before transferring. If you are an impacted major (such as communications) you need to do everything possible to stand out. GOOD LUCK!

Although SMC sends the most students to UCLA, the admit rate is about 35% of those that applied in 2014. So about 1/3 got in and 2/3 did not. https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_CAcc.htm

Being in your CCC’s honors program and completing its requirements will give you an edge for UCLA.

Visit your transfer center, use http://assist.org, and get good grades.

Read and learn from the UC Transfers forum http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/ particularly the UCLA threads.

Good luck!
