Rejected from WUSTL= Bad sign for the Ivies?

I have a 2350 superscore and decent EC's and focused EC's that showed commitment 9-12. My grades are the weakest part of my application but still not bad. I'm in the top 10% of a very competitive high school. I'm going paranoid though, after my rejection from WUSTL. Thoughts?

cough Tuft’s syndrome cough

Did you visit WUSTL?

I didn’t visit and showed virtually no sign of interest. I only applied as an extra option but that didn’t turn out well…I wonder why didn’t even get a waitlist?

what was your gpa? if it was below like a 3.9 idk then yeah that probably marked you down a bit. i’m sure you’ll get into at least 1 ivy though. =]

Assuming you have a solid GPA (which I do since you’re top 10%) and good ECs, along with the great SATs you have, you’ll be fine. WUSTL plays games with its applicants.

same here. I got straight up rejected. my sats were my weak point. (2100 and I am chinese) so yeah, it sucks. however, my rank is high (5) in a very competitive high school with 11 APs and straight As. Solid Essays, ECs and Recs but i didnt show any interest in WashU besides applying for the scholarship.

Well, I guess rejection time has started. I am 1/13 now. and WASH U was the one with the highest acceptance rate. ■■■ :frowning: (i got my safety school…it doesnt count lol)

Demonstrated interest is big for WUSTL. Take your rejection with a grain of salt. A 2100 and near 4.0 will get you into great places.

I’ve taken the most rigorous schedule possible and have earned decent grades. We don’t do GPA on a 4.0 system so I’m not certain about that. I really hope I do get into some ivies because this is quite depressing.

Yeah. Thanks. I appreciate your positive statement. I read all about the tuft syndrome and etc but the truth of the matter is that I got rejected. I am not going to make up excuses for myself and I am not going to find solace with the “not showing interest” explanation that has been buzzing around the CC website for a while now. I don’t want to be the bitter kid who tries to find reasons for my rejections. The simple answer is that I just wasn’t good enough and WashU doesn’t want me. Time to move on.

With that said, Wash U is certainly a harbinger for things to come so…12 more rejection letters. I think I might set a personal record for my school lol

That’s a depressing thought. Try to be more optimistic lol. Any other opinions?

My word of advice, don’t fret. Everything’s going to be alright  not helpful to you probably. But your stats sound great. Why not?

WashU is a little weird with admissions…

Sent from my iPhone using CC

Surprised you were rejected while I was waitlisted…

Wouldn’t take it to heart. WUSTL is really strange. As mentioned, they care a lot about demonstrated interest, and are not need-blind.

I’ve read that they tend to waitlist/decline students who they honestly don’t think would attend even if accepted. Helps boost their yield stats and such. Is this true? Does it apply to you? Who knows. Might help ya to assume you fall into that category though.

Is there a “Why WashU” essay question? If that essay wasn’t filled with well-researched specifics, that could be why you were rejected. Alternately WashU may not superscore the SAT. It seems strange for them to outright reject a 2350 unless their waitlist quota is already almost completely filled up.

There was no “Why WashU?” supplemental essay this year.

I guess I’m fine now. Still, a waitlist would have been better :/

There is no WashU supplemental essay this year.
How can this candidate demonstrate his interest?

^I believe that one of the most common reasons many applicants site for their decision to apply to WUSTL is the lack of any supplementals. WUSTL asks for common AP only. I belive their admissions department has made a strategic decision to make applying to WUSTL as simple as possible in an effort to attract more applicants.

You demonstrate your interest by visiting campus, attending a local WUSTL presentation at your HS and registering, contacting the admissions office, requesting interviews, etc.

You cannot ‘demonstrate’ interest if they get around 20000 applicants.
Let’s give her brownie points, she called us!!

^Actually admissions office’s pay careful attention and keep logs of visits, contacts, those that attend their presentations, etc. This is what they consider demontrating interest and this type of information is used by many schools to gauge interest.
