Just got my admission decision on tracker.. "The Admissions Committee has completed a very careful, individual review of your application materials. We sincerely regret that we are unable to offer you admission. Information about our holistic review of applications is included in the information mailed with your decision letter. Additional information about our admission review process may be found here." I think their whole admission process is really screwed up, I mean really..they could of just told me 2 months ago about my rejection. Honestly, I completely forgot about U of M because I had lost interest.

Sorry to hear about your decision. But for others applying next year, UMinn is a rolling admissions school, which by definition means that depending on when you apply and the content of your application, you might be waiting a short or a long time for a decision.

Again, rolling admissions does not guarantee that an early application means an early decision; when the decision comes depends on several factors. From the UMinn website:

“rolling admissions does not guarantee that an early application means an early decision; when the decision comes depends on several factors.”

That’s irrelevant. I applied to larger schools LATER than this one; I received my admissions decision for U of M MONTHS after the others. I’m not criticizing the rolling admissions system, I am criticizing the inefficiency of the University of Minnesota.

^Thank you for being more forthright than I was. I was hoping that the OP would get that message w/o me having to say it in so many words, but unfortunately they didn’t. Applicants definitely need to know that that’s exactly how rolling admissions works, rather than blaming the long wait on inefficiency.

“lower ranked applicants like yourself” haha. If this were true, they could have just rejected me and gave me the decision earlier. And I “know how the rolling admission works”, and the inefficiency of the University is cetainly a huge problem in their admissions process. UW-Madison also has a rolling admission system, but I received my ACCEPTANCE much earlier! (and Madison is a much higher ranked, more competitive university) This whole process just reaffirms what a poor university UofM is haha.

Wintergreen, I agree with your opinions on how the U of M’s admissions are terrible at making decisions earlier. They tend to take the “top” applicants and accept them right away, but have trouble deciding on the others.

I completely disagree that UW-Madison “is a much higher ranked, more competitive university”. It is very, very difficult to rank undergraduate degrees at all. In fact, chances are you are basing this entire opinion on how highly ranked Wisconsin’s grad school is. The vast majority, if not all, of the undergrad rankings online are very innaccurate. Nowadays, the vast majority of degrees all are very similar to one another in undergrad. However, it is when you get to grad school where you seperate the men from the boys.

Frankly, I am surprised you expected to get in so easily. Look at your stats! U of M is getting very competitive, as you now know. Good luck at UW Madison!
