Rejected.

My DD's rejection letter came today. Sad for all of us. Her mom and dad both graduated from Richmond as did two of her aunts, and many cousins. Her grandfather taught there and her great uncle worked there. Her SAT score was 1990, her grade point average was 3.5. She took lots of AP and Cambridge courses. She is the senior class president, editor-in-chief of her school newspaper, went to Governor's School for the Humanities at the UofR as a rising junior and Girls State as a rising senior. She started a debate team at her school and lettered in tennis. She was selected as a "World of Difference" representative for diversity training at her school. She volunteered at a kids' summer camp for the past 5 years. Those are just some of her accomplishments.
I know I am biased, but she's a great kid. Go figure.

It seems hard to believe she wouldn't get in. I am so sorry- Your daughter sounds so multifaceted and talented. Obviously she will do and has done amazing things in her life. Blessings and peace to your family- its a hard time.

Go figure indeed. That's hard to believe. So much for any sense of loyalty for UR, it would seem. Your dd is certainly no intellectual or academic charity case from what you've shared. And no doubt the U will work to nurture the notion that "we are family" and families support each other.

Loyalty is loyalty, but business is business, it seems in Richmond.

tough break. I was rejected too.

sigh..........

Hi MollyB--

I'm so sorry. I know you are disappointed. If you want to get a better understanding for the rationale of the decision, you are welcome to call our office to discuss it. I understand that you might be too angry to do so, but if you would like to talk about it, we will be happy to do that.

The University was in a very new place this year having received by far more applications than we've ever received in our history. Alumni are delighted about that except when their children are in the applicant pool. Many wonderful students with outstanding records were not able to be accommodated. I realize this does not take away any of the sting but I want to assure you that no one would have thought that she was anything less than a great kid when evaluating her. Many great kids were unfortunately denied.

UR Admissions

Sorry to hear Molly. Would D have definitely attended if accepted?
