rejection vs. deferral during SCEA

Does anyone know if Stanford commonly defers people and rejects very few SCEA applicants, or do they make a habit of rejecting people straight out? I know schools like MIT say they very rarely reject, but all schools are different.

Stanford, at least recently, likes to reject most and only defer a few well qualified applicants.

reject most is correct. sadly.

They reject about 50%. It's maybe sad, but at least you know that you have to move on.

Actually, at least a good 1000 people are deffered for SCEA. Usually it's a couple hundred more than 1000. The stats are out there somehwere. If I find an earlier post that deals w/ this topic, I'll definitely post a link to it. :)

Just off the top of my head, I think that about 50% of SCEA applicants are rejected. This does not, however, include rejections from deferred SCEA-ers.

From what I've heard, ~20% are accepted, ~30% deferred, and ~50% rejected SCEA. I never checked if it's true.

That sounds right to me! :)

I was always under the impression that 1/5 are accepted, 1/5 are deferred, and 3/5 are rejected.. or so..

What? I thought 100% were accepted EA! Wow, I'd better get started on my other apps then.

actually, knowing that that many people get rejected actually makes me feel a bit better, in a cynical sort of way. I didn't want to be one of those select few who just really sucked...

wow...a lot of people are rejected. i suppose it's better that way - at least i can get a definitive answer in a few weeks instead of in a few months

Yea, I would rather be spared the agony of waiting.

haha sharkbite....... I swear I heard they only defer a few.

Even so, this wait has been pretty agonizing...
