You still have peddie though right?

is there anyway we can ask these schools the reason of rejection?

i wish there was a way…

No, you really can’t. Just know that it was a very competitive applicant pool, and they did their best.

Yes actually I hear many people drop their interviewer a note or phone call.

I mean, don’t expect a long, elaborate answer… but if it was a clear-cut reason like low SSAT’s, one bad rec, no leadership skills etc., than they’ll give it to you.

for those of you who heard about deerfield are you all internationals or did you get a letter

Rejected by Exeter, waitlisted by Deerfield. It sucks being a financial aid applicant with the economy in its current state of affairs.

Still waiting on Andover - I’ll know by 5 EST

TOM!!! NOOOOOOOO!!! I COULDA SWORN!!!

EEEEKK!!! You will be in at Andover, I’m sure of it. Your mom is a legacy, HELLO, anddd they are still need blind!

I was W at Exeter… hopefully in at Andover as well.

I know! I was sitting in study hall with my computer waiting for the decisions to be emailed. They weren’t sent while I was in studyhall - they both arrived while I was in PE (dammit… I mean physical education, not Phillips Exeter… obviously) and I got to read two basically rejection letters within the space of one minute. It sucked.

Again, I’m waiting on Andover, but if I got rejected at Exeter and waitlisted at Deerfield, it doesn’t bode well for my Andover.

To be honest, I was stupid enough to never seriously consider preparing myself for rejection. So when I got a waitlist and a rejection, I wasn’t really prepared. My heart sank. I had imagined myself getting rejected several times, but I never actually was able to imagine what it would feel like. It feels like I wasted the time I spent applying, the thought I gave to every part of the application, and, of course, I feel so guilty for forcing my family to make such a sacrifice - for nothing. They had to pay to fly me transatlantic just to be rejected by Exeter. So now some full pay student probably four times stupider than me is going to be enjoying my place.

Still can’t believe that 40% of full pay applicants to Exeter got accepted. I would say that it’s unjust, but I know I’ll just get some day school trustee jumping down my throat to remind me that the schools have to be able to pay the bills somehow

Tom the Cat… don’t give up hope yet. We have yet to hear from Andover.
By the way, my D was a full pay applicant to Exeter with excellent statistics… 96% on SSAT, straight A student, very highly regarded by her teachers, gifted in writing and had good EC’s with leadership but was still rejected. It’s hard not to take it personally. I’m wondering what was lacking in her application.

Tom,
I feel for you. Your posts demonstrate that you are thoughtful and articulate, probably much more so than many accepted full pays. But I know that whatever the outcome, you will rise above this despair and you will be enriched by the experience. Take it from a parent. Good luck with Andover. You surely deserve it more than most!

Chaidrinker,
Amazing! Your daughter has superb stats! My son is full pay but only 80%ile SSAT and was turned down by E and A. Good luck with A.

TomTheCat,
I totally understand your anger.
I applied for financial aid and I’m international, what clearly puts me at a disadvantage.
Well, I’m trying to think positive. I’m waitlisted at 3 schools and I’m waiting for 3 other decisions.

Thanks. I haven’t given up hope, but getting a rejection and a waitlist are forcing my to think at least a little negatively so that, in the event that I get rejected at Andover as well, the fall will be all the softer.

That is weird that she didn’t get in! Guess the Exeter admissions committee works in weird ways, huh.

Pan1956,

Your post suggests that you’ve already heard from A? Is that right? I thought only Watertester has heard so far from Andover.

Ugh, watertester! I’m so envious of his/her son’s/daughter’s position. What an honor to be named a Tang Scholar!

Chaidrinker,
We got a call last week because my son is a legacy (embarrassing!) Good luck to your daughter!

A full pay legacy with good stats not getting in! I am convinced now that there is some amount of randomness to the process.

how to teach kids to deal with this kind of rejection. Rejected from 3 out of 5 schools applied and waiting for rest. Good SSAT, TRANSCRIPT, SPORTS,NO FA. I don’t now how to share this when my son get back home from school

Thank you chaidrinker. However, an 80%ile is not that great and, to be perfectly frank, my son has not really developed the maturity that these schools expect. So I am not shocked by the outcome. I hope it is better for your daughter.
