Rita, if your daughter never received a denial letter from Purchase she should contact the school and see if she might be on the waitlist.

Our letter from Purchase (waitlist) came on Friday.

NYU does have a waitlist.

NYU does, indeed, have a waitlist, apparently! I stand corrected, and happily so!

how many people are generally on the waitlist?

no idea but i can tell you this: a good number of the waitlist people will most likely come off the waitlist this year. i know of a large number of people accepted to tisch drama who are declining becasue of money issues, including myself unfortunately, so good luck!

I’m not sure how many Tisch has on its waitlist. Keep in mind, though, that while it’s probably true that more than usual may not be able to attend due to finances, Tisch accepts far more than they hope to yield, unlike some other programs. So, they wouldn’t get to the waitlist, or too deep into the waitlist, until all those initial accepted students have made a decision, and they see what the actual yield is.

Also read somwhere (Washington Square News perhaps) that they made offers this year to a slightly higher number than in the past in anticipation of more students choosing not to come for whatever reason (but finances being a big one, I would imagine).

good points!

Oi…too many rejections to list…glad I tried for so many…got to really find out a lot about the other schools…final tally…

TheatreMom 2009. Was the merit scholarship at Hofstra based on grades and test scores? My daughter was accepted at Hofstra, but was offered no financial aid despite a $25000 gap between family contribution and the cost of Hofstra. We are appealing, but have heard no response.

Thanks for the feedback on Duluth. It is hard to find out much about a school once your are out of the top tier of BFA’s.

Rita, yes, it was a merit scholarship based on grades and test scores.

A lot of people I know got off the waitlist last year, so it’s definitely a possibility to get off the waitlist.

The guthrie?!?!?!?
…that is so epic, theatremom2009!!!

TimThom, Thanks, but she still has to get OFF the wait-list. My suspicions is that that will be a monumental effort this year due to financial concerns. Oh well, my D considers it an honor to be on the wait-list for 3 great programs, but, she does wish that she would have been on the acceptance lists! I sure wish this process were over and we KNEW where she was going to attend as so many others already do. We are in the process of weighing the pros and cons of the schools she’s accepted to and will have to make a decision in the next few weeks.

If she is out of high school, that is quite the feather in her cap…I mean, my director says that the Guthrie is rarely interested in high school graduates. It is a situation very identical to Juilliard’s where the mean age of the freshman who attend are 20, 21. I was asked to do my three monologues, sing, and was asked questions (which, accoring to my director, is unheard of for a person at my age). So…just imagine what that means for you…MAKING CALLBACKS. At any rate, recieving ONE waitlist is beating the odds…don’t let the people who were accepted to 8 kajillion places get you down…they make up less than 1% of the auditioning population. 20 people get admitted to the Guthrie…and, chances are, if they were admitted to the Guthrie, they were admitted elsewhere, so there IS hope.

Also, UofI is an accomplishment as well. I was rejected (and I thought I did well).

TimThom, after both attending the callback and having a close friend that’s a sophomore in the program, I really don’t think that saying that Guthrie is more interested in transfer students is at all accurate. The great majority of people were high school seniors at the callback weekend, and the 11 on the facebook group are all seniors. And I think my friend’s sophomore class has 2 or 3 transfers. I’m on the waitlist too TheatreMom, and I’m with you about just wanting to know! I’ve had really bad luck with financial aid from most of the programs I’ve been accepted to, so I really hope that Minnesota comes through! But who knows.

Anywho, I guess I’ll go ahead and post the whole rejected/accepted list.
