rejections 2009

Congrats on Boston and CalArts!!!

My D has heard nothing from BU. She auditioned as a transfer. Any advice?

Haha, TimThom, I blame the internet for inability to express the intricacies of vocal tone, didn’t mean to come off as brash  :)! Congrats on NCSA! That’s a beastly feat in itself (in the best way possible of course). Belethien, I would contact Paolo DiFabio at the school of theatre, but if her application is complete and everything she should have been able to check online. Have you tried calling the general office of admissions and making sure all parts of her application were received?

Thank you TimThom and he-art4276 for your kind words. We are in the discussion process regarding schools now and it IS difficult. Good luck to you both!

Thank you, he-art4276, for the reply. Online it says her application is complete, but has no decision listed. She’ll probably try to contact them this week.

At this point she is probably headed to AADA-LA, a very good fit for her we think. It’s just hard for her to move forward when all decisions are not in.

Best wishes on your decisions and endeavors!

Bah! D Rejected from Guthrie today. Oh well.

The Guthrie program at the University of Minnesota is the only school I was accepted into. I was rejected from Ithaca, New York, Boston U, and NCSA, and am an alternate at SUNY Purchase. I’ve already made my decision though. BFA Guthrie Actor Training Program, Class of 2013.

Best of luck to everyone else on your acceptances and decisions.

Rejected from: CalArts, UNCSA (yesterday, pretty much bummed about it), and Pace Theatre.

Still waiting on (I’m a transfer student): USC, Fordham, NYU, and Occidental College (non-audition)

Accepted: AMDA, Columbia College Chicago (non-audition)

You guys who got into some awesome programs, be glad, some people won’t even get into one. I’m afraid the rest of mine will be rejections. :(

Junior Member don’t be too bummed out. My daughter did not get into any of her first choices, but she is starting to get excited about the schools she was admitted to. I do believe things work out for the best, even if it does not seem like it at the time.

Thanks Rita. And really, I know I will end up where I’m supposed to be. And it’s not all over for me yet. I still have hope. I just don’t want to set myself up for disappointment. I really hate it when I do that.

rejected from NCSA but there was a personal note in the letter from Robert Beseda (assistant dean of the drama school) who auditioned me to “please audition again next year”… accepted to BFA Acting at DePaul.

those were the only two American schools I applied to. I’m just happy to finally know where I’m going.

Yeah, I didn’t get that note. :frowning: What a bummer.

Margot, hang in there.

Congratulations, Burningbright. I wonder if a little bird could have told Robert Beseda that you were accepted at DePaul. I’ve heard that a number of DePaul students audition for other programs during spring of their freshman year, as a hedge against the cut… ;-)

My daughter finally heard from Purchase and it was a rejection. She was waitlisted at Emerson. Does anyone know the odds of being contacted off that list?

She is looking at the colleges she was accepted to and trying to decide by next week. Unfortunately, they are not her first choices but she is has some good colleges to choose from.

Rita, so sorry about your daughter’s Purchase rejection. Same thing happened to my daughter at Guthrie. The rejections seem to hurt a little more when you’ve come so far along in the process. You feel that if you had just done one simple tiny thing differently, you would have been accepted and someone else rejected. It’s sort of like getting cast as the understudy for the lead. So close, and yet so far. Again, I’m so very sorry.

Thanks Theatre Mom 2009. My daughter also was rejected by the Minnesota Program, but that was early in the process. What are your daughter’s back up plans? Right now my daughter is trying to decide between Knox, DePauw and UMD. All three are good options, but the better known BFA programs help some with connections.

Rita, I have known kids who went to both Depauw and Knox (not theatre) and loved both. Knox is on the Amtack line to Chicago and the students go into Chicago alot for overnights to see concerts, shows etc. DePauw is big with sororities and great alumni support when you get out. Good luck.

Thanks Zen 123 for the information about Knox and Depauw.

Rita, So sorry to have taken this long to get back to you. Right now my daughter has Emerson BFA Acting, University of Illinois BFA Acting, Indiana University BA Acting, Muhlenberg BA Acting, and Sarah Lawrence BA Acting. She was accepted to Hofstra BA Acting as well, but we’ve already told them she will not be attending. She’s waitlisted at Fordham BA Acting and Rutger’s Mason Gross BFA Acting. She’s struggling to make her decision…3 days to go. Oh my! Best of luck to your family!

OH, just wanted to mention that Knox is one of the “25 School’s that Change Lives” (I’m pretty sure I have that title right, but didn’t officially check). The small high school that my daughter attended for Freshman and Sophomore year had 8 students out of a class of 42 apply to Knox this year. I’ve heard very good things about the school, although I know nothing about the theatre department. Again, best of luck in your decision!
