Rejections: Class of 2007

love the bonfire idea!!! :)

thats ingenius! (haha)

Although I was a little bummed about being rejected from BoCo, I'm okay with it now because I just got a call back for 1776 for a community theatre production!! :) I feel so blessed to have gotten a call back even if I don't make it in, at least I know I was still being considered. :)

Some high schools I know have what they jokingly call a "Wall of Shame" :) where kids post all their college rejection letters. It's a way of sharing the bad news and commiserating about it. It always begins with just a few lone letters posted by brave people, and then grows to a whole wall by this time of year. Rejection is a part of life (especially the actor's life!) but it always stings. I admire very much how well you all have seemed to handle this.

Our two rejections this year were from SMU and U of Minn. Dont know what those people were thinking!

Wally,

U of Minn is really difficult to get in as they do some heavy duty recruiting ahead of time. Both of my guys eventually both received rejections, however one was waitlisted. Congratulations on your daughter's invite to Rutgers....what an excellent school!!

SUE

Congrats to your D, Wally! Mason Gross at Rutgers is a great school offering excellent training. As Sue/5pants says (Sue, one of these days you have to tell me the story behind your screen name ... I have always wondered but never asked until now .... ;)) Minnesota/Guthrie is apparently outrageously competitive and getting more so all the time. Two kids from my D's school were offered admission last year, but this year, only one (a boy, who is generally considered the best actor in a class full of 'em!) got an offer. The important thing is to focus on the good news. (Guys, remind me next year that I said this.:))

dcduckie: When did you audition for Ithaca and did you get notified by e-mail or snail mail??

I recieved my rejection from BoCo today. So I have two rejections so far and one acceptance to my safety. Still have a few more to hear from!

5pants & Notmammarose

Thanks for the kind words.

I have heard that Minn/Guthrie is "competative" and I have publicly praised thier program several times on this forum yet they are not on the list of elite top acting conservatories. They certainly dont have a years study at Shakespears Globe theater.

D kind of scratches her head and says, "how did I get in these places but those guys didnt want me"? Its their loss I believe.

Wally, from what I have been able to gather after almost two years on this list, college admissions by audition (OK, just college admissions in general!) can be puzzling. I have seen, on other parts of this forum, kids with amazing stats post that they didn't get into such-and-such school, and then a kid with less-than-fabulous stats posts that he/she did. Of course, admissions are based on a number of things ... a bigger "picture" so to speak. I would guess that in the case of MT and acting admissions, the adcoms/adjudicators also are building an ensemble/class of various types, which adds to the uncertainty of the whole thing. Tell your D (as I am sure you already have!) to concentrate on the wonderful acceptances that she does have and not give any more thought to the others. The important thing, as you well know, is that she has someplace to attend college that will challenge her and help shape her into the best actor she can be.

Hey You Guys Im So Depressed. Today I Was Rejected From Mason Gross! I Got A Full Ride To Rutgers And Really Want To Go But Im Not Sure If Their Ba Program Is Any Good. Dhe I Just Go And Audition For Montclair State's Bfa And Give Up My Full Ride To Rutgers? Help Im So Lost And I Really Need Some Advice!!

Sclreed:

Definitely audition for Montclair anyway, you never know if you'll get accepted or not unless you try and you won't know what scholarship you might get. Are you a NJ resident? Either way it won't be such a huge hit on your wallet.

That's wonderful though, getting a full ride to Rutgers. Obviously their BFA is top-notch but I don't know anything about their BA program. I'm assuming that the classes are great since you're going to be taking the theater ones at Mason Gross but only certain ones obviously. If you don't have any other choices, definitely go to Rutgers and try transfering next year (or re-audition for the BFA) if you're truly unhappy. The great thing about your position is you don't have to worry about money and you'll still be getting a great education in the process!! Good luck to you!

Thanks Breakintosong! I Was Really Upset. I Really Appreciate Your Advice. I Am Considering Auditioning Again Next Year. Good Luck To U As Well In Ur College Process!
SRRY BOUT BOCO! BREAK A LEG!!

Aww, thank you! Honestly I was expecting it, so it wasn't like something that hit me out of left field. I still have a few schools to hear from and I'm just glad I'm going somewhere in the Fall!

Rejection came from Syracuse last week. D wanted to hold any posts until we had heard from a couple others, but decided to post a couple of acceptances today. She got into BoCo and Hartt, still waiting to hear from Ithaca and on scholarship stuff from Drake.

how did your rejection letter from syracuse arrive, e-mail. snail mail? Still waiting in CA. Thanks

Sarahsmom....that's great news.....I know the wait has been long but as I have maintained, hearing earlier doesn't mean better results. College admissions is what it is and it isn't over until April 1. And even then, it is not over, because even if things are not coming out as some had hoped, there are always solutions. But kudos to your D on her acceptances. I know, wrong thread...but here is where I read of it.

Thanks, Soozie! Ithaca says the first week of April! It's sooo hard. We heard today that the waitlist at Elon is very short and D is the only girl!
Tracey, it came over email, then snail. Good luck. Don't loose hope, one of D's friends got two acceptances today and had not heard any good news up until now.

Hey, thats sooooo great sarah! I'm really happy for you...i know your wait has been long and painful.
I feel better about my rejection from BoCo today.
It helped that i got my tax return in the mail. haha

but seriously. look how many of us didnt get into BoCo. We are so not alone. It's such a comfort to feel that others are right along with you feeling a little bit :(

I'm sorry belter, u didnt get in anywhere....but you seem to have a GREAT attitude and drive toward your future, and i bet next year will turn out GREAT!!
I'm wishing personally that I had applied to more schools and I feel like it was a mistake not to apply to a whole bunch...but, i would have needed to save up money for application fees....so if it comes down to auditioning again next year...ill plan ahead all summer. :)
It seems like so many people audition again after a year....so good luck. don't feel alone in that dept. either.

love u all
best of wishes for now
