Rishabh was most probably waitlisted becuz he wanted Financial Aid. Its the same case with most of the Intls asking for aid. btw, his ECA is superb too!

Well...
Did any of you look into Washington and Lee University: I got accepted with basically full financial aid. Also, the bigger (haha...BIGGEST) schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia (and I believe MIT contrary to popular belief) are indeed need-blind for internationals. Well, if any of your friends are looking into schools you might want to mention W&L University. Best of luck to all of you. Still waiting for all my EXTREME reach schools. :(

dammit ! i knew i should have applied to Wash&Lee !

lol...where DID you apply?...I didn't know they existed, I only applied because they offered the rapid application so much. Then I checked out their SAT scores and figured I had a shot.

lol TWO "EXTREME CHEDDAR" reaches, one horrible "FINANCIAL AID MISER" school, three solid west coast jesuit schools, and my local provincial Uni.

Santa Clara? I like that school....but no financial aid. So basically...it ain't happening. Also got into Willamette but only qualified for a merit scholarship---we'll see how that goes since W&L would be a free ride. It basically comes to the "extreme cheddar" schools now (never heard that expression...)
Good luck to you dude (applies to both sexes ;) )

you never heard "extreme cheddar" ? On a scale of one to ten, with one being not extreme, to ten being extremely extreme, that was a 9.5 !!
lol watch Harold and Kumar...you'll get it.

no..not Santa Clara..USF

Oh that's a good one...I qualified for a $16,000 scholarship and kinda missed the deadline (my bad) so I didn't apply. Darn! But I hope you get in and they offer aid...not sure about their policy.

banedon . . i probably asked for more aid than you

The only ones that are actually need blind are harvard, princeton and yale..

The others arent need blind, and if considered from their point of view, it kind of does make sense... They dont have unlimited funding, and they have hundreds of people with amazing stats applying.. if it comes down to two people with about the same stats and they have to choose one (which is what happens in most cases since all the top places have so many good applicants), they are bound to choose the ones who are paying.. it makes sense from their viewpoint...

Harsh, but true..

oh. that. money sucks. :(

I thought even MIT was need blind

They are.....as far as I know: but I wouldn't bet my life on it ;) But then again...you basically need perfect SAT scores so there's a tradeoff....haha, just my humble opinion

So anybody have good news about colleges? Granted this is a "mourn your rejection" threat...but anybody wanna celebrate some acceptances?

much much importance does MIT give to a guy whose relatives have studied there as well ? Can it help a guy with a not so strong application be chosen ahead of a guy with a really good application ?

BTW Ronty what is ECA ?

I don't know much...but I don't think "legacies" help you THAT much unless your parents were/are quite influential (aka....MONEY). So I would say that it would help you, yes, but it would not place you ahead of a stellar or well-qualified applicant.....just my thoughts though

rishabh16 ECA= extra curricular activities....

And what's up with this "BUMP" stuff.....just means that you're basically "bumped" out of the applicant pool and have no real chances or does it actually stand for something?....laugh if you will at my ignorance ;)

bump = Bring Up My Post. a method, if used annoyingly, will annoy people.

well i had two oberlin alumni recomendations frm 2 immediate relatives....one was an art major who recomended me on my art skills to go with my art portfolio....i ED-ed in oberlin and thought i was playing my cards right....well that didnt pay off.....so i dont think that these sort of things work either.....the academics pretty much outweigh everything else in terms of importance.......
particularly for intels tho, i guess they put a lot of stress on standardized testin, given it is the only HONEST way they can judge us.....at least that's what i think....
