Need a message of hope!!! 780Math 560 CR 570Writ (I know i m not that good at english) SATT II 720Math 2 (underestimated the test and not enough preparation because got a strong 800 in the collgeboard testbook), Italian 760, Bio M 670 (i know it's a shame). GPA 9.05 (out of 10) approximately 3.33 out of 4. (No advanced courses available in my Country) E.C Class senator and administrator of school funds for 2 years, member of the "Albanian Youth Parliament", and volunteered at the United Nation's "World Food Programme". Played Soccer during 4 years of highschool and a very-well written application essay (good topic but not genial). Applied for a lot of aid (35.000$). Waiting for answers from COLGATE and LEHIGH. What do u think my chances r?

Olsi, I cannot predict ur chances but my best wishes r with u.

Melissa, my mother is from WBengal, thats why I know Bangla :)

oh ok....

Olsi, u have great SAT1 math score.....tells ur obviously smart...but the SAT 2 math score spells 'shirker'. Unfortunely, there is no way of determining chances when there is ALWAYS some more ppl out there better than you.....my scores are only okay too, and i am counting on my ECAs more than i should.....till now that didnt work out too well.....6 down 10 more to go for me....now um counting on ODDs....pure ODDs...!!
sorry i sound depressing, but u keep ur hopes up! there's no telling nothing till of it's done happening....g'luck!

6 down 10 to go already ?

and i thought id applied to a lotta colleges ;)

thank u Melissa. There's nothing to be sorry, i just wanted to here the truth and not lies (you know i am going to learn the truth sooner or later) I am sorry for you instead that you have 6 down so far. i am in at FAU till now which is not that good but at least i can console myselfe. But it will be difficult for me to take the VISA in the US Embassy of my country (in a country of the 3rd world like Albania it's almost impossible to get the visa to the US unless you are admitted in one of the top 100 US unviersities.)

yea...if u refer to the first page of this thread, u'll find my stats arent that pretty...so i was desperate=extracautious=reliant on odds....man, i've wanted this all my life!!

hey Olsi, nice to hear that other countries have VISA problems similar to the ones we have to face in BD too.....

hey melissa what r your stats

theyre on the first page

though melissa you havent said anything about your ECA's

don't be so surprized. e friend of mine had Math 800 CR 680 WR 720, Math IIC 800 Phys 780 and Italian 770 with a GPA 9.86 (out of 10) in the MOST prestiguous school in Albania, twice 3rd in the Albanian Math Olympiad (10th and 11th) and got rejected from MIT. I really hope for him to get a nicer letter from Harvard or princeton because he really deserves it.

oh....i did this community service work with a partner organization of UNDP last year.....i sent art samples, a portfolio of 12 artworks, in all sorts of media, that i have been working on for over a year.....and i am a GRADE 5 Associated Board of Royal School of Music ( ABRSM ) pianist. But, well, these things dont really matter...i didnt do them to score points, i did them cuz i liked doing them...and this is not what colleges see....honestly, academics pretty much top everything else and i dont have good enough ones.....

mhmm where have you applied ?

the 6 down u will find in the masterlist thread......
other than those i have colby, lafayette ( 2 ppl frm bd already got in with full aid there) bowdoin, grinnell, depauw, mount holyoke, bates, mcalester, occidental (REALLY WANT THIS ONE!!!!) and reed...............
so if my lucks SUPERBAD, i'll be rejected a total of 16 times....sigh....soo :o

no i dont think that will happen . . being rejected 16 times is just insane . . and your stats aren't all that bad as you may think . . so be hopeful !!

hey...lolz....thnx for that....:)

i got some good news ! (i think)
although one of my apps was not forwarded to committee b/c of my fin. aid status, I got a letter from another Uni (NYU).
It was for the CAS, and it was from the english department head, which i listed as my intended major. It sounded a little vague because it didn't say i was admitted, but the professor said that if i should have any questions about the english program at NYU, i shouldn't hesitate to phone or email.
does that sound like a 'likely letter' in your guys' opinions?

hey guys....need opinions here....wat do u think abt Cornell College at Iowa?...i got my best offer from there...so thats like my last option now....

hi did u already get the decision from occidental? I also REALLY wanna get in there! they sent the decisions on 23 March their web says

no i e-mailed them.....will say if they reply...good/bad......but if they dont, it'll take like 9 more days to reach me..........did u gt it yet?

red1ul, I was also accepted to Cornell College (nice aid. I only got the Frank Armstrong Scholarship). Did you sign in the Cornell Connection site yet? The people there are pretty nice and really in love with Cornell. From what I sensed there and on the online chat a few days ago for admitted students (and talking with Terri on MSN), they're awesome and the college community is close-knit.

Have you read Pope's book "Colleges That Change Lives"? It's got a great section about Cornell College (main reason why I applied there). They also say the OCAAT system makes doing a double major plausible. There are even people doing triple majors there. And having the 9th block free seems like a pretty good deal.

no....nothing yet....just a rejection from Earlham :(...'if your financial situation changes, we will reactivate your application' - also one of my safeties - I hate this!!!!! Occidental is one of the colleges that offer most generous finanical aid i read somewhere that 36 out of 42 intels receive fin.aid so let's keep our hopes up!!!!
