Though the forum seems almost dead, I think there are someone invisible skiming through.
I was just accepted 3 days ago by Santa Fe campus, and the whole thing just jumped out from my mind every 2 hours. Yes, I love Santa Fe and SJC.
I'm a Chinese girl from an extremely traditional high school in China, and I have never left my country in my whole life. So I'm a little hysterical about my future life in the US, especially at quirky St. John's College. ^_^
I haven't be notified about the financial aid package. Obviously, I need tons of money. My family can afford no more than 12k every year. I wish, I pray, I dream!
I submitted the application 3 months ago, however, the rolling process seems dead for me. I have been worrying for 2 months because the director of Admissions seemed extremely cold. I poured all my passion into my essay which contains 4500 words. For a normal Chinese student, it's respectable! Hahaha! Anyway, every minute I waited was worthy.
Guess how I got to know St. John's? I typed "college" instead of "university" into the search engine wrong! St. John's College resists rankings, so I don't know how I could know it without making the mistake. Yes, I'm careless and lucky!
Hope to see you in Santa Fe!

did they send you a letter which explains that they received your SAT results etc.? if they did so, how long did it take you to learn that you are accepted? I am an international as well from Turkey.

Hello, Ferhat. No, they didn’t do that. Well it took a really long time before I was admitted, en…about 2.5 months. But I heard that Annapolis campus is much more efficient. Someone got accepted just 3 days after her application was admitted. You should keep contacting with Mr. Randall Hollensbe. He’s special. Good luck!

Congratulations! You are right this forum is dead, I applied two weeks ago so I’m anxiously awaiting a decision. It’s my first choice college, and I worked my butt of on those essays so hopefully there’s some good news soon.

Hi, BritSuchALady, I think Ill go there in 5 months. They granted me big financial aid, you don’t have to worry about that, they always try their best to make you go there. They do respect applicants, I really appreciate it! Good essay does help!

Hi, I am from China, and was admitted by SJC yesterday! And FA info was sent to me this morning. Package is quite enough, 41,000. But loans are pretty heavy. Now I hesitate between SJC and lafayette college. The latter also offers almost 40,000. I was wondering whether SJC deserves me to risk my education in future four years. I cannot find enough confirmation from others. I Really understand you, ^o^

It took 6 days for me to get a reply. In fact the lady called me before I even got my letter to let me know I was accepted and ask me about the status of my financial aid. 2 months is a long time…are you an international student?

Hello everyone!!!was accepted to SJC yesterday!!!could you guys please shed light on your campus choices (Santa Fe vs Annapolis) & the factors that lead you choose them? Am I right in believing that Santa Fe gives more aid than the Annapolis campus, or is it untrue?

Anything, (your thoughts about location, cultural aspects, finaid, absolutely anything) would be helpful!!!I am finding it difficult to choose between the two…So please post your PERSONAL OPINIONS!

I’m going to the Annapolis campus. St. John’s in Annapolis has much more of a city. You can get most places easily by walking. There are a lot of bodies of water around. I’ve never been to Santa Fe, but I’ll say what I’ve heard about the campus. Santa Fe is on the side of a mountain. To get to most places, you need a car. Hiking and outdoorsy stuff are really big here. The campus is apparently beautiful. I don’t know anything about differences in aid between the two campuses. I am mostly choosing Annapolis because it is closer to where I live than Santa Fe is and I like being able to walk everywhere.

thanks nicole! that was useful. Now I need to find out about the finaid differences between the two. Lot of water bodies sounds fun!!did you submit your deposit already?/when were you accepted?

I’m going to the Santa Fe campus. I think Santa Fe fits my personality more, the city itself. I’m into art, it’s a more laid back atmosphere, the people are creative and different, basically I enjoyed the locals more then in Annapolis. I’ve visited both, my boyfriend is from Santa Fe and we go there sometimes, (he’s Native American into art) and I went to Annapolis for Naval reasons.

I think I read somewhere (it might of been here) that the Annapolis campus is more formal then Santa Fe. Also I’m from Minneapolis so weather wise Santa Fe is much better.

Nicole101 is right, it would be nice to have a car in Santa Fe, you are definitely not walking anywhere unless it’s on a nature trail. It is a very outdoor nature loving town, with a lot of hippies…and I don’t say that in a negative way because I love them. Which is another reason why I’m going.

Seriousrem, I think it depends on your personality, and what you like to do for fun. Oh! My fin-aid packet from Santa Fe was awesome, I was actually extremely worried but I won’t be graduating with tons of student loan debt.

Thanks Britsuchalady!!!Personality wise, I am discovering that I will fit in Annapolis more…Plus, it would be easier for me to get summer jobs in Maryland, which is a main concern for me.

Also, being an international, my main concern is the finaid. So, I need to base my decision in that factor. Mind sharing your finaid??PM me if you like :D

That’s OK, St. John’s College may be quirky, but not freaking. The loan is alright. You don’t have to worry. Keep in touch, if you’ll go to Annapolis, to share our feelings about lifes on different campuses.
