Religion at Ole Miss

Is Ole Miss/Oxford a really religious area?

Mississippi is in the Bible Belt, so the school is in a religious area. Most of the students are “Christian.” I would not run around with an “I’m an Atheist” t-shirt on, but a substantial portion of the student body is not too worried about sin, as the school regularly ranks as a major “party” school.

I would guess that maybe 10-20 percent of the students who spend the weekend on campus might attend a religious service either Saturday night (Catholic) or Sunday morning. Certain churches are active with outreach. But people tend to keep their religion to themselves and not rush around trying to convert people or engage in a lot of religious arguments.

This was my experience as a student some years ago, also from someone who lives in Oxford now.
