I am a deist.

Indeed, splitting hairs. I have no problem with that, so long as the context informs me what hairs are being split.
The problem with this trinity of opinions that there are more than 3 measurements available. This is not merely one belief of which we are speaking. Binary would have us on a 0-1 scale, but one agnosticism ("agnus" = sheep, implying "not knowing") is an "A1", or active abstinence saying the info is unknowable. Should we not also have an "A0", whose sole purpose is to deny A1? And where would a 25% fit in the Agnostic scale? If you don't call it atheist, what happens to A25%? The idea is that the active agnosticism introduces a new belief to talk about. In mathematics, we can prove that certain statements are independent of our Axioms, the equivalent of unknowables. But these are rigorously shown; if active/absolutist agnosticism is to blend with the others, and if also you are using logic, then wouldn't you distinguish between these cases?

It all seems like syntax, jargon and context to me. Splitting hairs indeed.

Remark:
I have to go (sleep).

Edit: actually, I oversimplified it.
Absolutist atheism will not merely be the "0". It would be on a scale entirely on its own. You see, "The statement 'god exists' is true" and "The statement 'god exists' is false" might be opposites, but inserting the word "believe" changes either.

Then give me those definitions of which you speak, please. I am seeing some inconsistencies on the Internet, but of course a source could be unreliable.

agnostic comes from the greek verb gignosko, roughly to know. the alpha is a privative, so "not to know." Now, "Agnus Dei" is latin, "lamb of god," I assume referring to Jesus. Gnostics claim to directly "know" God, agnostics don't...

Thank you dearly for the correction; you have saved me from repeating the error in person.

Its actually impossible to be a pure atheist, but most atheist don't even have a clue what atheism is.

^ I'm anxious to hear... how is it impossible?

@ #73 by Dr.Horse

There is no strict definition whatsoever of any word outside mathematics and axiomatic systems, and 'atheism' is no exception. Unfortunately the statement "most (sic) atheists don't even have a clue what atheism is" merely points to your perception of the word being (perhaps starkly) different from the majority of the population, and since it is by society that a word is realized, the statement is moot. (I'm not attacking you or your beliefs here :) .)
