Relinquish credits before external junior transfer?

Hi,

I just got admitted to Cornell as a junior transfer and I am really excited about it. So excited in fact that I would love to be able to take as many elective classes as I can and I realized that it's going to be tough if I only have 4 semesters. I absolutely love my major but I have broad interests such as psychology, history, political philosophy etc. On my transfer sheet, 20 units that I completed are counted as "Electives". Would it be weird for me to ask them to relinquish those credits? In that case, would I transfer as a first semester sophomore (with 40 units)?

My previous insitution is clearly not an institution like Cornell or any top school and I would like to stay as long as I can to take advantage of everything an institution like Cornell has to offer, even though I know this is not possible...

Thank you!!

Who’s paying your tuition?

^^^^^ that was my thought as well!

I am low-income hahaha everything’s free!

In all seriousness, Cornell will cost me around 3k/year.

If I understand correctly, financial aid usually comes with a maximum time period for completing your degree. You need to check that before you assume that you can decline elective credit and plan to spend more time studying at Cornell!

@ mathmomvt Thank you for your help. I’ll check with the Financial Aid office but I still don’t have my FA package yet, they are very busy. Honestly, I almost don’t feel like asking this question to the FA office since I already consider myself extremly blessed to be able to study 4 semesters at Cornell as a low income student. Maybe one day I’ll go to grad school if I want to continue to be in a university environment.

I was wondering, what are the units brackets at Cornell that define a student’s status such as sophomore, junior etc. With 60 units, I guess I’ll be considered a 1st semester junior but with 40 units, would I be considered a 1st or 2nd second semester sophomore?
