Remembering April 27, 2011 & Recover Tuscaloosa

The University of Alabama carried out community service projects within Tuscaloosa this morning in honor and remembrance of the victims of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes. Dr. Judy Bonner and Dr. Nelson were just a few members of the UA administration and faculty who worked along side UA students, community members, and others to assist with clearing debris from areas hit by the tornadoes. My D and her friends participated and they were deeply touched to see the memorial for one of six UA students and one faculty member who lost their lives in the horrific storm.

In keeping with the efforts of The University of Alabama, I ask each of you to perform some random act of kindness today or during the upcoming week within your own community in honor of the victims of the devastating storms. May we all remember the lives lost and the spirit of community which is alive and well in Tuscaloosa and on the campus of The University of Alabama.

There is no need to post what the act is unless you so desire, but please add your screen name, state, and/or community below as a means to encourage others to continue to remember.

I am proud of the UA and the contributions of students, the administration, and faculty as we remember the lives lost on April 27, 2011 and join the community in recovery efforts. The overwhelming spirit of community makes us stronger…T-Town, never down. Roll Tide!

Thanks for sharing this, Bamagirls. Hard to believe it was just one year ago - it seems longer.

We just visited a memorial for one of the young victims. I pray we all remember that day as we go about our daily tasks and realize that each new day is a gift and not a promise.

Thanks for posting this. It’s going to be a tough day in Tuscaloosa and around the state today. I saw the devastation up close a few days after the tornado came through. Visions I will not soon forget.

God bless those who lost children, loved ones, pets, homes, and businesses.
