Renewable National Merit?

I always thought that National Merit was a single-payment scholarship, but what is the renewable 4-year scholarship? Are those the corporate scholarships?

^^^The last question

As far as I know the renewable scholarships are done through the school. Otherwise, the corporate scholarships are one year only.

My son’s “renewable” NM scholarship is sponsored by his university. While there are no specific requirements for retaining the award beyond still being enrolled full-time, it is necessary to fill out a form each year (provided by the National Merit Corp.) in order to continue receiving it.

The amount of the college-sponsored awards depends on the university. Many universities don’t sponsor any, some have variable amounts depending on whether or not the students is eligible for need-based aid, and some have variable amounts depending on whether or not the student has received any other merit awards from that school.

Some corporate-sponsored NM scholarships are usually renewable. D got a corporate-sponsored NM at $2000/yr, renewable to cover up to 4 yrs.
