We got our reminder letter from the college today. It said that we should update our FAFSA by Feb 15. They have their own additional fin aid form and they want that then too, though if "the family's finanicial situation has not changed in the past 12 months," this form can be omitted.

I just helped a current freshman with her forms. Might as well do it now and get it over with. The form auto fills last year's information and then lets you make changes. I found it really quick and painless. I was actually impressed by the ease of the renewal. For a federal government form that is saying something!

i feel like i'm technologically illiterate but i tried navigating on that FAFSA site and i just don't know where to go to renew...
can anyone tell me where to click?
do i go to step 3 and choose "make corrections to a processed FAFSA?"

Sillyrabbit don't feel bad, I too just spent about 1/2 hour looking all over the FAFSA website for renewal. I tried to go into Step 3 and that did not work for me either. I did not enjoy completing the form last year and so far I am not having any fun this year with it. I also get to fill out the CSS again this year. Can't wait to start that one....

Ditto the frustration! You would think that FAFSA would understand that 3/4 of the people who need to file FAFSAs are in the renewal phase, and they would have something about it on the website. However, this is what we have to do: begin the 2008-2009 FAFSA as if it were new. Input the student's soc sec number and it asks if we already have PINs. After the numbers that we already have are in, it recognizes that we filed last year, and asks if we want them to fill in the known blanks. It leaves out the blanks that need to be updated. I only began it to see how user friendly it is, and it was very easy. I didn't go much further than the first page or two, because I don't have final numbers yet. I agree with someone on another post who said that it was surprisingly easy to do, since it is a government form! :)

Thanks all, I too looked at the site briefly after the New Year and couldn't seem to find out how to renew. One more question, can one fill out the renewal form and then send it to NEW schools for transfer application purposes?
