Is there a significance to Medal in financial aid calculation ? I did the NPC calculations with both medal included , and omitted and the NPC came out to be the same and quite high compared to other universities. This was on College Board web site. I was wondering if there was a significance to the medal except for they get one extra application in the pool.
How reliable are the NPCs? As they are right now, I don’t think they are worth applying to based on cost.
I ran it both ways also and there was no real difference. The Medalist helps in you have very little need or you GPA/SAT are not in range for good merit. But then, you probably didn’t get the Medalist scholarship.
RPI is not a full “needs met” school or they use their own definition of need.
Our “need” was ~50K and they offered ~40K
If you are a Medalist it is free to apply. All you need to do is write another essay and send SAT/ACT scores.
RPI on average provides 87% of need according to the common-data-set but how they calculate need for a person is different for every school. They gave us more than what we calculated as our need so it can be more or less for each family’s situation.
