RPI Scholarships

I'm a senior who didn't get into college mode until August. Considering that, it's not really a surprise that I had no idea about the RPI Medal until too late.

Another student in my school requested it last year, and although she does deserve it, it leaves me slightly worried about my [merit] financial situation if I apply here. I'd rather have more merit aid and less need-based aid.

I looked up the other merit scholarships at RPI, and I found this list on their site:

Rensselaer Grant

Rensselaer Leadership Award

Rensselaer Merit Scholarship

Rensselaer Housing Scholarship

International Leadership Award

But there aren't really any details about them.

Are there any merit aid scholarships that could match (or surpass, I guess) the RPI Medal? Or is that the most merit aid possible at RPI? Are there any that come close?

Any help is much appreciated.

The RPI Medal is not the only scholarship that RPI hands out to incoming freshman. It is only one of the many incentives that are offered to entice students to RPI.

If you are a good student, have a good resume, and present yourself well, you will receive a competitive financial aid package. Trust me.

The Leadership award, which has subjective guidelines, is worth more than the medal award. it's worth $20,000 per year vs. $15,000 per year.

dsilva: The leadership award can vary greatly. Mine started at $10k but then I just sent a letter asking for more money and it shot up.

Also, I got my laptop for free from RPI (worth ~2000-2500) I think it had to do with being on the President's academic honor list or something like that... Its not something they advertise, and I don't know if they are still doing it. They sent me some things in the mail about the deal over the summer after I enrolled at RPI.

There are an absolute ton of merit-based scholarships, including some worth more than the medal. If your grades and test scores are good enough that they want you there, RPI will find a name to stick in a scholarship as an excuse to give you money.

Yea, RPI gives alot of scholarships! To US citizens though... international aid is very competitive...
