Anybody heard anything about RPI school of architecture? I have a couple of options, but they are offering a substantial merit scholarship. I would appreciated any info.

what are your other options and where do you want to work when you get out?

What does the RPI facult list look like?

Hmm, i know three kids in my school are going to RPI, they're all very bright, so I'd assume it's a great school - however the campus isn't as great. It's located in Troy NY.. a kinda.. "eh" town (a bit shady if you ask me).

I know one of them is going for architecture and is kinda nervous about it - but im sure it will all work out well =)

Congrats on the scholorship and good luck!

As an RPI student, I've heard that the architecture program is quite rigorous. I've met a few arch. majors and they always say its a lot of work but they seem to enjoy it a lot. The only other major thing I know about it is that the Lighting Research Center (LRC) is pretty important. http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/

Anyways, I was searching around for RPI stuff on wikipedia when I found out that RPI ranks #1 for undergraduate architecture, according to one source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Architecture_School_Rankings

I haven't bought the actual book to verify this, but I guess I am not too suprised . RPI's programs have traditionally been more undergraduate oriented. Notice how RPI dosn't even appear on the Top graduate schools list. That is where you see the larger schools and big names, Harvard, Yale, etc.
Has anyone heard about these rankings, or is Wkipedia in error?

Oh and by the way, the RPI campus is actually quite nice... its the surrounding city, Troy that sucks. Personally since I've been here I haven't had any need to leave campus, so it hasn't been much of an issue for me.

The list is wrong... Cornell is ranked #1 and has been for the past few years. RPI does have a good program. Visit the school and talk to the students and faculty members. It's not all about ranking. See where you would "fit" best when selecting the school.

don't listen to those rankings for the most part-- It is much better to compare individual programs and faculty/ grads- and environment than pay attention to those rankings-
