Rensselaer Medal Program

I was told by my guidance counselor my name was nominated for my school for the RPI Medal. Does that mean I am guaranteed to get it?

While there is no absolute guarantee that RPI will offer you admission, if your school nominated you because you are one of the top science students your chances are very good that RPI will admit you. If you are admitted, yes, you are guaranteed the medal and scholarship. (My son is a freshman at RPI with the medal.)

One note: if you are also applying for need based financial aid, the medal will be part of that package. That is, it will not reduce your parents EFC. For example, we have an EFC of about $25K. RPI offered my son the medal ($15K) plus about $11K in grant money plus Stafford loans. We were still expected to meet our EFC. On the other hand, this is actually a good package because, like many schools, RPI does not promise to meet everyone’s full need. Also, they did not include work study in it.
