How does this work exactly? If I'm the only person applying from my high school and I guaranteed to get it?

If that's how your high school runs it, then yes. Congratulations! haha

Most high schools have a faculty committee which selects a top science student in the junior class to receive the Rensselaer Medal. I do not know what criteria each school uses, could be highest overall science GPA, along with standardized math test scores. You could probably look this up on Rensselaer's website. Since the recipients of the award are juniors the faculty has no way of knowing if the student will actually apply to RPI but I imagine the scholarship that goes with the medal is certainly an incentive for the recipient to later do so. My son was not his school's medalist but applied to and was accepted by RPI this past fall (he likes the school very much but still not sure if he will attend). The student in his class who did get the medal did not end up applying to RPI.

Oh, I understand. Thank you.
