As far as I am concerned, this is great news! Kids can opt to buy their texts anytime during the rental (if they decide they want to keep the book), and -- very surprisingly -- they can underline and highlight.
I am still going to compare prices with books online, but I think it is great this option will be there.

dbwes - Is this something unique to Marquette…ie a “rent-a-text” facility near the campus? My D rented books thru chegg.com last year and was planning on doing so again this year. Books are not up yet on the checkmarq website so she is once again weighing all her book options. Thanks!

Actually, from what I understand it is a Follett based program that will be available both online at checkmarq or at the bookstore. The flyer we received says you can learn more at [Rent Textbooks, College Textbook Rentals | Rent-A-Text](http://www.rent-a-text.com). It also says that online rentals and/or ordering of books begins Aug. 2.
I didn’t know about chegg. It will be interesting to compare prices.

Thanks for the info dbwes. I’ll forward it on to my daughter as I’m not sure she has received the info from the school…anything to keep costs down!

My S will be renting any books he can from MU. For him, the problem with Chegg would be sending them BACK, but it’s much more realistic for him to walk them over to the bookstore. Unfortunately, only two of his books are available for rental, and only one of them is pricey.

Yes, I was hoping more books would be available for rental – maybe it’s because the program is new and there will be more books as time goes on.
We did Marquette rental, Chegg, used books from Amazon and B&N, new books from B&N, and one or two new from Marquette.
Two students – all done! The totals are not too bad this time.

You should definitely try Chegg.com out, not only did I save hundreds but they bought some books that the bookstore wouldn’t buyback. Also, use this coupon code CC132614 to save 5% off your order or use it for an extra $5 when selling your books through chegg. The code never expires so share it with your friends.

FWIW…it’s all about perspective…;)

D is starting Law school this week and we went with her today to buy her first semester books…$1371 with about 1/3 of them used…one had a $189 price tag as a used book! and you can’t rent Law books either…

She’s going to SMU not MU; she applied to MU since I’m an alum but I couldn’t get my VERY Southern girl to go anywhere that cold…besides she wants to eventually live here in Dallas and not only is SMU Law more highly ranked but also a better spot to be for working here.

eadad – ouch, ouch, ouch!
Best of luck to your daughter!

^Thanks much…
