What do others do about insurance when renting cars in the Caribbean? To date we have relied on our credit cards, but I am considering trying to find a company that provides more benefits if necessary. Any suggestions?
I hope the car won’t be in the Caribbean,
Which country?
Yuck yuck.
Grand Cayman.
We rent every year in Grand Cayman. Collison is covered by our auto insurance and/or credit card, but we always pay extra for the liability coverage. Check with your auto insurance company and your credit card before forgoing insurance in a foreign country.
In Grand Cayman you will be dealing with lots of people who aren’t used to driving on the left + there is major rush hour traffic, as crazy as that sounds on a small island. Add in large roundabouts with those same drivers now going clockwise - accidents happen.
Also, book your rental car well in advance. There is a rental car shortage on Grand Cayman. The island was closed down for so long the the rental car companies sold off their inventories. Now that tourism is picking up, they aren’t able to keep up with demand.
