Hey, so I was just wondering if it's worth it to rent storage space for dorm stuff during the summer. I live pretty far away from SD (I have to fly), so I've got to limit what I can bring back and forth between home and school. I know bringing everything with a car would be much easier, but my parents don't have time for a road trip. Does anyone know of any cheap storage facilities, or has someone come up with a better solution for summer? Because naturally, I expect to accumulate more stuff during the school year, but my suitcases are already filled up ready to go xD.

That’s exactly what I did. There’s a storage place really close to campus called Storage West La Jolla. It was $180 for the whole summer for a 5’x10’ room, but they offer either bigger or smaller rooms if you need it. Find some other people to share with and the price is a lot less, since you probably won’t need the whole room. Here’s the website.

I recommend Sorrento Valley Self Storage. I’ve rented there two years in a row, it’s legit, one exit away from school with relatively no traffic in that area.

I forget what the company was called, but the one I used during my first year had a service where they would give 3 boxes (large, med, and small) for you to put your stuff in and they’d take it from the dorms and drop it back off when the next school year started. The largest box was approximately 2’x2’x3’ and they went down in size accordingly. It cost $100 so it wasn’t all that bad, considering it was a bigger hassle for me to get a ride to the storage facilities. I’m not sure if they still do business at UCSD, but if they do, ask around the res life office or look out for them during the spring finals pancake breakfast.
