So, I’ve got at least one school (Belmont) that’s asking for a repertoire list at the audition… and I’m not entirely sure how I would format a rep list specifically for musical theatre?
As for the material on the list: are all of the songs on the list supposed to be polished and performance ready, or is it all music studied in voice lessons, even if it hasn’t been performed? And should all songs on the rep list be in the audition book?
@jessieburnett my D’s (limited) rep list (also for Belmont) is what’s in her audition book: Pieces that she’s worked on with her voice teacher, and would feel comfortable singing, if asked. That said-my D has not taken private voice lessons very long at all, so this may not be the correct approach for others
Owensfolks - you are definitely on the right track! A performers rep list will evolve into something pretty specific throughout college, but in terms of auditioning for schools- my guess is that they want to know what you can do now. So yes, all of the songs on the list should be in your book and ready to be performed. It’s probably so they can get an idea of how you see yourself as a performer (by what songs you choose for yourself) but moreso to use if they want to hear more after your initial audition selections.
@AlexaMT Thank you! That really helps! And I’m also wondering if you know whether it’s alright to only have a 32 bar cut version of each song on the list, or should you actually have the full version of every song?
