<p>Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I've been wondering:</p>
<p>My son did 9th grade at our local public school, and then transferred to a private boarding school, and being young for grade, did 9th grade again. </p>
<p>When he applies for college, will he need to submit his transcript from his first experience with 9th grade?</p>
<p>Will his grades from the first 9th grade be part of his GPA?</p>

<p>Yes, he will need to submit his transcript from the public school. However, it will not factor into his GPA, which will be calculated by the private school. Some schools recalculate GPA, but it’s really unlikely they would find a way to factor in the repeated year.</p>
<p>Applications will ask which schools he attended and which years, so you can’t avoid the repeated grade without being dishonest.</p>

<p>Schools also put very little weight in freshman year grades. pancaked is correct about sending in all the scores. They should not be a problem.</p>
<p>I had to leave halfway through my junior year due to health issues. I had to repeat my junior year bc of that. My official HS transcript showed my freshman year (01/02), sophomore year (02/03), junior year (04/05), senior year (05,06).
It completely skipped over my horrible junior year in 03/04. In fact it just looked like I left school for a year, when in reality I only left for spring semester but my grades were horrible during fall semester bc I wasn’t well at all.
So no I don’t think the HS transcript will show that freshman year. They’ll only show the year he retook it and the GPA of that year will not be factored either.</p>

<p>Yes it was my school’s decision for me to repeat that year and to remove it from my transcript. It was a complicated situation and they didn’t feel comfortable with me finishing off that year with the issues I was dealing with. They sat with my mom and talked it out.
In the end my issues were a continuing problem so even though I repeated that year it wasn’t great and they kind of shut me out. I did apply to a uni and they didn’t ask about the one year that was missing. I just ended up just going to a local community college though.
Your son’s situation will be fine because you can explain the age thing (if they ask), and like someone else said Uni’s don’t really look too much into freshman year grades.</p>
