hi guys, I really need some help with this. I have been debating whether not to repeat junior year because my GPA has plummetted so much. It was because of personal issues however, from a 3.6 GPA in my other years, I got a 3.1 the first semester of junior year. my cumulative GPA is now a 3.5 roughly. I am retaking the worst courses online to drop the grade from my transcripts and therefore it will not be factored in my GPA. I attend a private school in Michigan and I was wondering if it is worth it to repeat junior year so that I can have a better college admissions chance. my school reports UW GPA. What are the cons? What are the pros?
In my humble opinion, this sounds like a silly idea. Your GPA has not “plummeted” so much, you had an okay semester that dropped your cumulative GPA by 0.1.
I think you need to start thinking bigger picture here. Is it Ivies/Top 20 colleges you are shooting for? If so, those are really a gamble for anyone. Is loosing having your friends in class and spending another year in high school worth it for maybe getting in a top college?
Also, I doubt your school would even let you repeat a year for a 3.1 GPA. I hope this does not come off as mean, because that certainly is not my intention. Best of luck!
Don’t redo a year, what’s done is done. Instead, write about what happened in the additional information section of your application. That should cover you some.
Many schools will not consider only the ‘good’ grades. If your school allows you to replace D’s and F’s, do it. I’ve never heard of a school allowing you to replace a B or even a C.
no, you really helped thank you so much!
