High School Dilemma, need help/advice?

I am currently a sophomore in high school who switched schools due to personal reasons. However, in the process of the switch, my transcript was lost, and I need to redo nearly all my classes for credits to graduate. Fortunately, I will be able to graduate on time. However, I’m a bit worried.

My current UW GPA is a 3.48. I plan on taking both the PSAT, SAT, and ACT somewhere in my Junior year. This is just the first semester, so people have told me to “just do good” second semester. My school career has been messed up a TON, barely getting any education 9th grade. I’m afraid I’m just in too deep.

I’ll admit, I haven’t been taking the classes seriously due to being a 10th grader in 9th grade classes. However, I’ve been doing horribly. In Biology I have B-, in Algebra I have a B+, in World History I have B, and in Writing I have a B. My aspirations include going to Michigan, and I fully understand these grades are no where near Michigan standard, despite being just the first semester.

So, my question is, do I still have time to turn my grades around for Michigan? If you didn’t read it, I’m a 10th grader taking 9th grade classes due to not having the credits from a transition of schools. My current UW GPA is 3.48, and I believe Michigan is 3.75+? Would it look good to the Michigan admissions office if I came back next semester and absolutely crushed it? Or is it just too late for me? Thanks!

Wow, that must REALLY stink… losing a transcript and retaking freshman classes?? Luckily it’s not too late for you to improve your GPA! If you get As during second semester you should be able to show that you’re willing to work hard (and it should raise your GPA too). I did some quick calculations and if you get solid As in JUST the 4 classes you mentioned, you could raise your GPA to around 3.74. That’s not including any other classes you might be taking that might be easier. If your teacher gives extra credit, take advantage of that; that’s how I boosted my math grade a significant bit.

Alright, thank you! I will definitely be taking the classes more seriously next semester. I just underestimated the classes and thought it would be cakewalk for an A, but apparently, it wasn’t. Simple mistakes lowered my grades.

THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO DO ASAP : contact your former school and have them fax the transcripts to your new school.
Otherwise, have the new school reclassify you as a 9th grader.
