Replying and quoting

I am trying to reply to a thread and I wanted to know how to quote someone such that you get the quote tags. On other forums, there is a quote button or a multi-quote button but I do not see that here. Yet, I still see the “quote” boxes when others reply. How are they doing this???

Thanks!

So that it looks like this:

The

BBCode is usable here, but would it be possible to have the Quote and Multi-Quote options enabled next to the Report and Reply options already below each post? I’d like to believe that’s fairly standard for vBulletin forums (vB is the company who made this forum software, by the way) and I think it would simplify quoting posts (and remove the “^” and “re: #2” sorts of requirements in posts). Just a thought.

What happen to this function?
Options
Quote message in reply?

It’s unselectable.

Hello jwxie,

Thank you for your questions. Admittedly, that option shouldn’t even be visible in the first place. Long ago we had it enabled and it was quickly abused. In other words, one member would quote the entire passage from another member, and then another member would quote that entire passage in their response. It resulted in content being duplicated throughout a thread, making it necessary to scroll on and on. It is still possible to quote, as you know, but not via the “quote message in reply” function. Sorry for the confusion.
