Report 2010 taxes on Fasfa or wait to get 2011?

Hello guys,
For CSS profile my mother and I used her 2010 tax returns.
For the FASFA, a lot of the questions talk about our 2011 taxes yet my mother had not received them yet and doesnt know when she will be getting them.
Do I use her 2010 taxes or wait till her 2011 come back?

Also, I can only add 10 schools to FASFA, can I add more later?

The 2012-2013 FAFSA became available for online submission on January 1, 2012. You should do it in keeping with the deadline for the schools to which you are applying. If the school has a January deadline…here’s what you do.

File your FAFSA using a “will file” status which means you WILL file your taxes but have not yet done so. Use the BEST possible estimates based on your end of year pay stubs, interest statements etc. Then submit it to the school(s).

Do your taxes as soon as reasonably possible after Feb 1 when you have all of your 2011documentation. Go back IN to the FAFSA website and amend your FAFSA to reflect the figures from your 2011 completed tax return and resubmit to the college(s). Change your status to “taxes completed”.

This is the year you want to get your taxes done as soon as possible. It is NOT the year to wait until April 15th to complete your taxes.

Your mom wants to complete her 2011 taxes ASAP after Feb 1. She should not delay her completion of taxes this year. The schools will prepare an ESTIMATED financial aid package for you based on your ESTIMATED FAFSA but they will not finalize it until you have updated the info on your FAFSA to reflect 2011 accurate tax return info, changed filing status to “taxes completed” and resubmitted.

Re: more than ten schools. You submit to the first ten schools…then wait until that FAFSA is processed (usually about a week). Then you go into the FAFSA, DELETE those schools, add the remaining schools and submit to those schools.

Just remember when you update with your tax returns to do ALL of your schools…first one batch…then wait…then delete and add the rest.

You will need to allow time to do this if you have more than 10 schools so that you will not miss the deadlines for filings for any school.
