Reporting For Albertan 9th Grade

Hello.
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Alberta's system is structured so that high school is from Grades 10-12, junior high (equivalent to middle school) is 7-9 and elementary is K-6, unlike the 4 years of high school in the majority of the rest of Canada and America. American universities ask for classes and grades and extracurricular to be reported for all 4 years, but as Grade 9 isn't considered high school in my province, is the ninth grade still counted as high school or counted at all for when I apply to US schools?
Thanks!

Yes it’s still counted.

Thanks!

Although I did previously - quite some time back - email Yale Undergraduate Admissions about it, and their response was:

From an admissions standpoint, if your secondary school only has grades 10-12, then you do not need to send your ninth grade results from middle school.

Would this mean that it doesn’t count, or is this in regards to transcript, or is this a unique case at Yale?

Anyway, thanks!

Yes each school decides.
In fact, I would even email Yale again and state that you attended Canadian middle school from grade 7 till 9, then secondary school grade 10 to 12, are you expected to send your 9th grade transcript?
Princeton doesn’t require your 9th grade transcript for sure, but it was my impression that Yale did, as well as the majority of American colleges.

Thanks for all the help!
When I emailed Yale, I did tell them about my 7 to 9 middle school and 10 to 12 high school, but I asked broadly about grade 9 in the application, not just for the transcript.

However, I should realize that Grade 9 counts, as Yale is obviously not the only school that I’m looking at.

Again, thanks.

Just send Grade 9 to every school - if they don’t need it, they’ll throw it away. And if they do need it, it won’t be missing so you’re disqualified for an incomplete application.

For years, up to about 1980, US schools were junior high school, 7-9, senior high school, 10-12. Some US districts are still structured that way, but often times, 9th grade is included on the transcript automatically, since even though 9th grade is not physically located in the HS, it is considered part of it for purposes of state requirements for graduating HS. Check with you high school and see if 9th grade is automatically included on the transcript. You can’t be the only person considering a US college.

Thanks! I will do that.

Although, it seems as though everyone is just looking within Canada, most just at the local university. Most people are surprised when I tell them that you aren’t just admitted based off of grades at top american institutions, and several thought they would get in to Princeton solely off of doing somewhat well on a minor math contest. It seems as though there is a group that will be, “Applying to Harvard because YOLO!”

Still, thanks to everyone!
