Hi everyone! I'm a member of the Class of 2018 and receiving financial aid. My expected family contribution is about $1,500. Recently (and to my surprise) I have received some outside scholarships which total about $2,000 (and range individually from $150-$1000). I am wondering what happens if I choose to report the scholarships. I don't want to be sneaky but I know that Penn will reduce my grant if my scholarships exceed my expected contribution. Does anyone know how much they will reduce the grant?

I believe that Penn applies it to the amount you the student are responsible for first, unlike many other schools. Double check with financial aid. Either way, you should report it. If they reduce your grant by 500, but they reduce the full amount you were supposed to pay by the full 1500, I think that is more than fair.

@parentofpeople Thanks for your advice! I was just worried that Penn would drastically reduce my grant. I will go ahead and report the scholarships.
