I will receive about $3,000 in private scholarships and they're paid out to the college not to me.
When accepting my financial aid, it says to report any outside scholarships.
I was wondering if I should report the scholarships and whether they will affect how much financial aid I get. I read somewhere that 3,000 in private scholarships will result in a loss of 3,000 from the financial aid, which I don't want. Would anyone clarify this?

My understanding is that you have to report the scholarship and that it will take away other financial aid you may have been given. Since your scholarship is being sent to the school, they will find out about it anyway and will likely ask you about it if you don’t report it.

I got outside scholarships when I went to UCSD, reported them, and then the need-based portion of my UCSD scholarship went away.

Last year I reported the scholarship and they took away from me only unsub. loan.
I compare it to my sister (FA at UCSD), who didn’t have outside scholarship.

I guess I’ll report the scholarship after I confirm that it will be sent to the college.
Even though I do get more financial aid than most, having to pay college all by myself really puts a strain on my budget. I wish they didn’t take away from the needbased portion because the need is still there. Feels like I’m getting punished for getting a scholarship. lol
Oh well…Thats how things work i guess. I’ll see what happens.
