Reporting Scholarships

So I got this scholarship and the check is made out to Berkeley. I am to hand deliver the check to the financial aid office. Do I need to go on the Myfinaid website to report the scholarship or can I just bring the check to the office when I come to Berkeley in 3 weeks and they will adjust my financial aid package then? I am also receiving two other scholarship checks but those will be sent directly to the financial aid office. Do I still need to report those on the website or will the office just receive the check and adjust my package then? Thanks :)

You need to report all outside scholarships to the website. It may affect some of your other aid (ie. may reduce your work study or loan amounts).

When do I have to do this by? I am confused on how to report it because it divides the amount into Fall and Spring. Which is the best way to report it to maximize the amount of aid I will receive?

Were there specific instructions on how the aid was to be applied (ie. did they tell you to split it up between semesters?) If they didn’t tell you to split it up, I think you have a choice as to how you apply it. I don’t know if there is a deadline to do this or not. I can only use my son as an example. He received an outside scholarship for $1500 per year while at Berkeley. He was to receive 1/2 in the fall and 1/2 in the spring. The check was made out to UC Berkeley and sent directly to Berkeley. When we called financial aid about whether or not to report it online, we were told to do it right away. When we reported the scholarship, his work study went down from over $3000 per semester to $1875 per semester. If you have any questions, I would call the financial aid office tomorrow to get clarification. It would be worth it to sit on hold and eventually get accurate answers to your questions. Good luck and congratulations on receiving some outside aid. Every little bit helps…
