So what overall reputation does Macalester have? I've never heard of it before... I have received a ton of mail, and of course it's tie to the UN is quite interesting.
But have people heard of it?
Will employers recognize the school as producing what kind of scholars, apt in what areas?
Thanks.

If you want a school that has universal name recognition, don't go to a small liberal arts college. The average person walking down the street hasn't heard of any of them. Few ordinary people living on the coasts have heard of Mac because it's in the Midwest. That said, employers and grad schools know it.
The school is known for internationalism, so International Studies is probably the most famous major, but all of the social sciences are really good (economics is also well known, political science, anthropology). Its pre-med program is also known by med schools to be really good.

mac is a great school in a great location. i agree with the post above, you shouldn't look at lac's for 'overall' reputation, of course schools like amherst and swarthmore will not be as widely recognized as penn states or boston u. though top grad schools and educated people know amherst is 10000000 times better than bu. :) it's definitely one of the midwest ivies.
