Reputations of Apartments near USC (Where should I live?)

I was just accepted for Fall 2012 as a junior comm major, and first of all, I am so excited. This was the only school I applied to, and I am seriously lucky that this all worked out!

The only thing I'm concerned about is that I'm coming this fall without knowing anyone who goes to USC, so I could really use some advice from some helpful USC vets about where to live!

Ideally I'd like an apartment that is known for being social and fun, near USC (hopefully not too sketchy?), has parking, where I could have my own bedroom, and is relatively nice (but not crazy expensive).

I know there are a couple USC managed apartments, and that there are a lot of others, too. Does anyone have any recommendations for a great apartment building? What are the apartments like near USC? Do any far reputations for being a certain way/having certain kinds of people living there?

Also, if you are looking for an apartment too, maybe we can make arrangements for this fall together on this thread.

Thanks so much, guys!

just want to bump this to the top again in case someone can help

I believe it was started by a USC student.

I knew quite a few junior transfers who chose to live in USC housing — Troy Hall and Troy East were most popular with these types of students — just because it took that extra stress off and it was easy to make immediate friends/acquaintances by being in that type of environment. Troy and Troy East are both off-campus apartments for upperclassmen, so only sophomores, juniors and seniors will live there. (Maybe a few grad students, but that’s unlikely.)

Otherwise, most juniors tend to live in houses off-campus with friends, or in apartments on Ellendale, Menlo, Portland and similar streets. I’m not sure what the demographic of the new 27th St apartments are, but I assume they’re mostly upperclassmen as well. You might have luck finding a room of your own (or to share) in a house if you look around. Students are always looking to fill rooms since the houses are older and often have 5+ bedrooms.
