housing next semester!

hi all,
i'm transferring to sc next semester and just received my housing assignment..i'll be living in troy hall east, and was wondering if any current students could give me info or opinions about the place..also, how can i find out who my roommates are? their info wasn't listed on the assignment..thanks!

I believe you can call the USC Housing Office & ask them who your room mates are & contact info. They should have that info by now or very shortly. Here's the webpage at the USC.edu website that describes Troy Hall East. Since my S is a freshman, I don't think he knows much/anything about this complex but will be trying to learn about all the different housing options to choose for next fall over Christmas break.

The description makes it sound like it's in a good location.

Troy East is a nice place, I lived there during the summer. It's not too far from campus, although a bike might be a good idea. I would say definitely use Campus Cruiser at night, although I would give that advice for anywhere you would be living that isn't right on campus. The apartments in Troy East are pretty standard as far as USC apartments go from what I've seen. You'll have a kitchen and a living room as well as bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen has a stove and refrigerator as well as a garbage disposal, if you want a microwave and you roommates don't already have one, you'll need to provide it for yourself. All the apartments have cable, a phone line for each person, and an ethernet jack for each person. Hopefully I've helped at least a little bit.

I've got a lot of friends living in Troy East, and it's definitely the best USC-owned off-campus housing. The location is good too.

Yea it is located in between The Row (fraternities/sororities & lots of other off campus housing) and campus. Its very nice, especially compared to some other USC housing. You may want a parking permit at the Shrine if you are bringing a car.

thanks for all the help everyone! i was a little worried about living off campus bc i didn't want to feel isolated, but it sounds like troy east is a nice place and not too far away..just hoping for good roommates now :)

So far, my S & his friends have all had good room mates. USC does try to match folks as well as possible if they answer the room mate selection questionaire (hope you were as honest as possible--it really helps). The RA/RC staff really tries to help folks as well. Good luck! Hope you enjoy your USC experience!
