Ok so I just got an email from UC berkeley requesting an optional letter of recommendation. The only problem is, I’m homeschooled so the few real life teachers I have had, I’ve already had to bug a bunch for letters of rec for other colleges and programs. I really would hate to bug one more time, but I will if I absolutely need to. My question is, does this mean I’m a borderline applicant, as in they are torn between admitting and denying, or does this just mean they’re trying out a new sentence and I got “lucky” enough to get picked for one.
A new thing*, not a new sentence
I too am interested to know the answer. I told my parents and they were happy because they thought it was a good thing but looking back on it it seems to be more of a sign that I could be on the border. If anyone could shed any light on this it would be much appreciated!
Maybe these will help.

The two students that I know that got the email today both had stellar grades and test scores. It is definitely not a bad thing, since they aren’t requesting letters from kids they know they will likely reject!
Thanks guys. I got my fingers crossed that it’s a good thing!
That’s not always the case, though. You’ll see a good amount of students get into berkeley with less than stellar grades or test scores. Their essays could essentially make them borderline candidates.
