Requesting letters of recommendation now?

Hello! I will be applying for multiple colleges this upcoming July, August and September. Do you think it is too early for me to ask my teachers/ counselor for letters of recommendation? Would it be wrong for me to ask them to write them, seal them formally, and mail them myself when my application window opens? I know my teachers/ counselor are very busy with letters of rec in my large school, so I figured this would give them a larger window to get around to it. I’d just have to ask them to give them to me, rather then mailing them right away. Thank you!

M D has already asked the teachers before summer break. She just sent them reminders and more information this week. For the 700 or so colleges on CommonApp, the teachers would upload the letter directly. For many other schools, they have electronic submission also. In case of a physical letter needed, your school would properly handle that. It rarely would pass through a student’s hand.

If you are not applying until next summer, you might want to wait until January/February. By that point, teachers and guidance counsellors will be done with the student applications for Fall 2018.

Don’t start 2 of the same thread, please.

^^This. You are likely to get a more positive response if you wait until the flurry of activity from this cycle dies down. Also, some schols want these done through the common app or on their own forms or portals. When you ask someone to doyou a favor, you want to make it easy and want them to do it only once…
